Mariing kinukundena ng UP Solidaridad, ang pinakamalawak na alyansa ng mga publikasyon sa UP system, ang intimidasyon at karahasan na kinakaharap ng mga mamamayan at humanitarian group sa iba't ibang bahagi ng Timog Katagalugan.

Matagal nang nasasadlak ang rehiyon sa sunod-sunod na pandarahas mula sa mga pwersa ng estado. Isang halimbawa nito ang kasalukuyang nararanasang de facto martial law ng mga mamamayan sa Oriental Mindoro, kung saan namataan ang sunod-sunod na aerial bombing at strafing. Dahil dito ay nagsasagawa ng mga fact-finding mission ang mga humanitarian group ukol sa paglabag sa karapatang pantao at paniniktik sa mga residente at progresibong indibidwal mula sa militar.

Kamakailan lang ay ginipit at tinutukan ng baril ang humanitarian team ng Karapatan Southern Tagalog na pinadala sa Roxas, Oriental Mindoro. Ang grupo ay nakatuon lamang na magsagawa ng civilian investigation ukol sa dalawang bangkay na pinaslang sa sinasabing engkwentro nang sila’y pinagbantaan at tutukan ng baril.

Sa Maguibuay, Tagkawayan, Quezon naman, walong humanitarian group ang ni-red-tag at idineklarang persona non grata buhat ng tumitinding presensya ng militar sa lalawigan.

Dulot ng kaliwa’t kanang paglabag sa karapatang pantao, nakikiisa ang UP Solidaridad sa anti-pasistang kampanya at hinihikayat ang lahat ng mga publikasyon at estudyanteng mamamahayag na manatiling alerto, tutukan at ibalita ang lumalalang sitwasyon buhat ng pandidiin sa Timog Katagalugan.

JUST IN: CLEMENTE AS THE 42ND UP STUDENT REGENT

Ron Dexter Clemente from UP Diliman has been declared as the 42nd UP Student Regent (SR) after more than 15 hours of deliberations among the various UP student councils. As the highest decision-making body of the UP studentry, Clemente will represent the students in the Board of Regents and will be responsible in advancing the interest of the entire UP community.

The second and third SR nominees are Renzo Ivan Puntanar from UP Los Baños and Alec Xavier Miranda from UP Manila, respectively.

UPDATE: After deliberations amongst the various units of the University, the four Student Regent nominees have been narrowed down into three: UP Diliman nominee Dex Clemente, UP Manila Nominee Alec Miranda, and UP Los Baños Nominee Renzo Puntanar.

HAPPENING NOW: Four nominees hailing from the campuses of UP Diliman, UP Manila, UP Los Baños, and UP Visayas will present their campaigns and platforms in the Selection of the 42nd UP Student Regent happening at the University of the Philippines Los Baños..

The UP Student Regent is the highest decision-making body of students and the sole representative of the studentry in the UP Board of Regents. Among the nominees is UP College of Nursing alumnus and UP College of Medicine student Alec Xavier E. Miranda.

JUST IN: Former UP Manila University Student Council Chairperson and 42nd UP Student Regent Nominee Alec Xavier Miranda delivered the UPM USC’s End-of-Term Report during the 59th General Assembly of Student Councils at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Miranda highlighted the USC’s efforts on the Stop and Review RSA campaign, with millions of pesos being taken from students in RSA penalties.

LOOK: Various student publications from all UP units convened in UP Los Baños last August 4-6, 2025 for the UP Solidaridad Bi-Annual Congress where they discussed the resolutions to be carried out by the alliance.

A total of 10 resolutions were adopted by the body, while 4 were tabled. The tabled resolutions will be discussed in a virtual UP Solidaridad Congress, with the date and time yet to be discussed by the member organizations.

Vital Signs co-authored one of the tabled resolutions entitled, “A Resolution for UP Solidaridad and Its Member Publications to Intensify Efforts in Recognizing and Reinstating Newly Revived Student Publications Across the UP System”, alongside publications Frontliner, Ang Mangingisda, Pharmakon, and The Public Herald.

HAPPENING NOW: Various student councils from all UP units convened in UP Los Baños for the 59th General Assembly of Student Councils and the Selection of the 42nd UP Student Regent. The assembly will convene from the 7th to the 9th of August 2025.

The delegation of the UP Nursing Student Council is incumbent NSC Chairperson Ayeicza Bautista, and incumbent Batch 2028 Representative and candidate for Vice Chairperson for Internals Carlene Canlas.
