Update!!

Sinoe County Senator Augustine Chea, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Judiciary, has provided clarity on the status of Attorney Frank Suku Jr., the nominated County Attorney for Sinoe County, following concerns surrounding his confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Speaking to Radio Butaw over the weekend, Senator Chea denied claims of political interference in the confirmation process, stating that the Senate’s decision was based strictly on professional and procedural grounds. “There is no political undertone attached to the delay in confirming Attorney Suku,” Senator Chea said.

He emphasized that while he holds nothing personal against the nominee, the judiciary committee is committed to ensuring that individuals appointed to key legal positions are qualified and competent.

According to Chea, Attorney Suku lacks prosecutorial experience, which is a key requirement for the role of County Attorney. This, he noted, has raised concerns among Senate members and led to a stall in the confirmation process.

Senator Chea further clarified that Attorney Suku is not the only nominee affected by such scrutiny. He revealed that the County Attorney designate for Maryland County is also facing similar delays due to the same lack of experience.

The senator concluded by reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to upholding standards in public service appointments, particularly in the justice sector, where experience and competence are critical to effective service delivery.

In a strong display of civic engagement and democratic values, the Seebeh Youth Association (SYA) successfully conducted its leadership elections on Monday, July 21, 2025.

Held at the Seebeh Youth Center in Greenville City, the election was conducted under the supervision of the Sinoe Youth Association (SIYA), the county’s umbrella youth body.

From 8:00AM to 6:00PM, youth turned out in significant numbers to cast their votes in what has been described as one of the most peaceful, inclusive, and transparent elections in the community’s recent history.

Operating under the election theme, “Bringing New Faces & Agenda to the Table,” candidates presented transformative agendas focusing on reconciliation, accountability, and youth empowerment. The results marked a victory for the Youth Alliance for Change (YAC), whose candidates swept all three major leadership positions.

Samuel D. Togba was declared President-Elect, securing 235 votes against opponent Levi W. Bardue’s 202. Togba’s campaign emphasized unity, integrity, and community empowerment, resonating with a wide base of young voters.

In the race for Secretary General, James W. Torbor triumphed with 247 votes over Thomas Cheenchean’s 185. Torbor has pledged to strengthen communication, enhance transparency, and foster a culture of organized documentation within the association.

Meanwhile, Sharon N. Dweh was elected Assistant Secretary for Finance, receiving 234 votes to Prince Niagbe’s 195. Dweh, the only woman elected, promised to prioritize financial accountability and mobilize resources to support youth development initiatives.

Out of 451 total votes cast in each category, the low number of invalid ballots reflected a well-educated voter base and effective electoral education by SIYA.

This election sets a high standard for grassroots leadership, with young people playing a critical role in shaping their community's direction. The winning team’s platform includes key pillars such as peace and unity, peer advocacy, education, sanitation, and sports issues seen as essential to the Seebeh community’s growth.

District #5 Representative Prescilla Abram Cooper Writes ✍️ ✍️

On September 19th 2024, we introduced in plenary a bill for the establishment of a National Rehabilitation Commission. We again on May 19, 2025, sent in a discharge petition for this same bill, since in fact it has been in the committee's room all this time!

This bill when enacted, will be dedicated to supporting the rehabilitation and wellness of our people through structured programs such as; residential treatment for both in/out-patient,recovery or sober care, addiction counselling, mental health, medical care etc.
This Bill also calls for centers to be open in the 15 political subdivisions of our country to ensure our people have access to quality rehabilitation, mental health services, community-based support, and programs to reintegrate recovering youth into society with dignity.

Approximately 63% of our population are young people and a good number of them are battling addiction to hard drugs. This isn’t just about addiction but a lost potential, broken families and a blank future!
I'm calling on our Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon Deputy Speaker Hon. Thomas P. Fallah and the rest of my distinguished colleagues to ensure the passage of this instrument upon our return! This is more than a policy. It's a movement. A response to a growing crisis. A call to care. A fight for our nation's future. A bold step toward healing, hope, and transformation.

Our young people deserve a second chance and that's why I too will be joining the August 7, 2025 "JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS CAMPAIGN" march to the Capitol...
I urge every citizen, every stakeholder, and every leader to join in this noble cause.
Together, let’s turn pain into purpose and give our young people the chance they deserve!

Here are two facts about the school project our guys are laying claims to:

1. The project was initiated towards the end of the second term of the first UP government when it negotiated and secured the initial US$25 Million dollars IDA (grant/loan) for the sector. The amount was for the construction/extension of 28 schools.

2. Three Senior Secondary Schools were to be built in Kakata, Gbarnga and Ganta and 25 Junior high schools were to be extended to Senior High Schools—- meaning the high school section was constructed/added to 25 existing Jr. High schools across the country. With all we did to have the project rolling smoothly, none of the schools were completed within the six years of weah regime.

Stop claiming glory for projects you could not complete within six (6) years even though the money was available.

Gov’t Announces Dedication of Decentralized Passport Centers in B**g and Grand Gedeh Counties

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monrovia, Saturday , July 19, 2025: The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is pleased to announce the official dedication of newly decentralized Passport Application Centers in B**g and Grand Gedeh Counties.

The dedication ceremonies are scheduled to take place early next week as part of the national calendar of events in celebration of Liberia’s 178th Independence Anniversary.

This landmark achievement is made possible under the visionary leadership and instrumentality of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, whose commitment to enhancing public service delivery and expanding government reach remains unwavering.

The decentralization initiative is a major step toward making passport services more accessible to citizens across the country, especially in remote regions.

Previously, passport services were centralized in Monrovia, presenting logistical and financial burdens for applicants from the leeward counties. With the establishment of centers in B**g and Grand Gedeh, residents will now be able to process their passport applications closer to home, saving time and cost while increasing efficiency in service delivery.

“These centers are not just buildings they are symbols of inclusion, equity, and the government’s promise to bring services to the people,” said Foreign Minister Nyanti. “This is a proud moment for our Ministry and a significant milestone in our decentralization agenda.”

The dedication ceremonies are expected to draw local government officials, traditional leaders, and members of the public. The Ministry also assures citizens of the centers’ full operational readiness, equipped with the necessary technology and trained personnel to deliver world-class passport services.

As Liberia marks another year of sovereignty and nationhood, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its commitment to citizen-centered governance and service decentralization.

The Superintendent of Police for Sinoe County, Madam Cecelia K. Howard, has disclosed that the Liberia National Police (LNP) is investigating a disturbing video currently circulating on social media, in which five individuals are seen being forced to carry the corpses of a woman and her two children.

According to Madam Howard, the video shows a mob forcing the five individuals accused of witchcraft to carry the dead bodies as a form of punishment and public humiliation. The deceased woman and her children are reportedly from a local community in Sinoe County, and the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.

In the video, the five accused individuals are seen being maltreated by members of the community. The mob claims that the five are responsible for the deaths through alleged witchcraft practices a claim that has sparked widespread concern and condemnation.

Speaking to this station in an exclusive interview Monday Via Mobile Phone, Superintendent Howard confirmed that the police have viewed the video and launched a full investigation into the incident. She, however, declined to confirm whether any arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.

“The police have seen the video and we are taking the matter seriously. An investigation is ongoing to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served,” Madam Howard stated.

She also warned against mob justice and urged citizens to report suspected crimes to the police rather than taking the law into their own hands.

“Maltreatment of suspects is unacceptable. Every citizen has the right to due process under the law. We are calling on the public to cooperate with our investigation and allow the justice system to work,” she added.

The incident which happened some part of last has raised fresh concerns about rising cases of mob violence and accusations of witchcraft in rural communities across Liberia. Rights groups and community leaders are also calling on authorities to intervene swiftly to prevent further escalation and ensure accountability.
