GMA Network's Txtube, as vividly presented in this video, was a groundbreaking late-night interactive TV block that truly embraced the nascent digital age. It was a dynamic kaleidoscope of viewer participation, blurring the lines between traditional broadcast and personal communication.
This innovative program featured:
 * Music Video Showcases: The latest music videos provided a pulsating soundtrack, often featuring popular artists like Gary Valenciano.
 * Live Text Polls (imPulse): Viewers were actively engaged, casting their votes on various topics through SMS, such as "Do you surf for p**n?" or more casual inquiries like "What do you look for in a guy?". The real-time display of results, showing audience sentiment, like the "Idol ko pa rin" vs. "Laos na" poll, made the audience an integral part of the broadcast.
 * "Trash Text" & "TalkBooth" (SMS Chat): This was the core of Txtube's interactivity. Personal messages, greetings, and shout-outs from viewers constantly scrolled across the screen, fostering a lively, user-generated dialogue. Participants could register with details like usernames, birthdays, and even their favorite pop culture icons, such as "Frank Miller's Batman". They communicated with friends, expressed thoughts, and engaged with a broader community, all facilitated through SMS messaging.
 * "SideGig" & Information Graphics: Beyond the interactive elements, the screen often included various data graphics, likely featuring program schedules, promotions, and other relevant information.
Txtube was more than just a TV show; it was a pioneering social experiment, showcasing how technology could transform passive viewing into an engaging, participatory experience. This innovation was a direct result of GMA Network's synergy with New Media Inc. (NMI), its digital media and technology arm, founded in 2000. NMI was established to offer interactive applications across television, mobile, web, and online gaming platforms. Txtube exemplified this vision, becoming a significant part of GMA's pioneering history in interactive television by integrating SMS-based communication directly into its programming. This allowed GMA7 to harness the then-emerging mobile technology to create a direct, real-time connection with its audience, establishing a new paradigm for viewer engagement.
Txtube was a glimpse into a future where every screen could be a two-way mirror, reflecting both broadcast content and the collective voice of its audience.
