PLM Propaganda

PLM Propaganda PLM PROPAGANDA is the premiere LGBTQIA+ organization in PLM.

It is a university-wide, non-academic community that aims to create safe spaces in and outside the walls of the university while advocating for gender equality. This is our first move, as LGBT people in PLM, in order for us to be admitted as normal people in our society. We are empowering the strength of nowadays LGBT to say no to discrimination among us and of course to stay us away from being vi

ctims of hate crime. Hope you guys appreciate our principles and works and do support our steps in making change between you and Us (LGBT) in this society :)

Today we celebrate the people who live beyond the limits of โ€œboy or girlโ€ and remind us that gender is not a box to check โ€” itโ€™s a spectrum! โœจ๐ŸŒŒ

Non-binary people have always existed, across cultures, time, and history. From Indigenous Two-Spirit identities to South Asian hijras to global gender-diverse communities that colonization tried (and failed) to erase ๐Ÿงฌ๐ŸŒ

Pride month came to an end weeks ago. Yet, the communityโ€™s fight towards an inclusive and accepting society is still ongoing. Recently, there are few significant landmarks that the LGBTQIA+ have achieved that deserves to be recognized and celebrated.

In a recent statement released by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernรกndez, he mentioned that the Catholic Churchโ€™s stance and decision on the controversial approval of blessing the same-sex relationships โ€œwill remainโ€ under Pope Leo XIV.

โ€œ๐น๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘ข๐‘๐‘–๐‘Ž ๐‘†๐‘ข๐‘๐‘๐‘™๐‘–๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ : On the Pastoral Meaning of Blessingsโ€ is a document released last December 2023 under the late Pope Francis. Whereas, it was known as the Popeโ€™s gay-blessing declarationโ€”that opened the door of the church in terms of blessing couples in irregular situations such as same-sex relationships. However, the very document, ๐น๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘ข๐‘๐‘–๐‘Ž ๐‘†๐‘ข๐‘๐‘๐‘™๐‘–๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ , emphasized that the blessing of the church is only for the person involved alone, and could not take the form of a liturgical rites and does not imply approval of โ€œirregularโ€ unions.

Thus, PLM Propaganda firmly believes that it is still a long way to go for us to acquire the full blessing of the Catholic church in terms of same-sex unions. However, Pope Francisโ€™ decision to bless those who engaged themselves in same-sex relationships and/or marriages can still be considered as a big advancement for the community towards an accepting society. Time will come where everyone of us, regardless of our SOGIESC, can love freely and have the blessing of the religion we practice.

Louder for those at the back. Transwomen are women!

On June 16, a ruling in the country of India became remarkable for the LGBTQIA+ community and gender justice, in general. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has ruled that transwomen are to be legally recognized as women, and further affirms their equal rights for protection under the Indian Law.

It was after Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa presided over the case of Shabana, an Indian transwomen, who was a victim of abuse by her own husband and received life threats from her in-laws. Her husband and his parents petitioned to the High Court back in 2022 to dismiss the charges filed against them; whereas, the counsel contended that Shabana did not qualify as a woman due to biological considerations, particularly bearing a child. Therefore, she did not qualify as a wife and could not seek protection under Section 498A.

However, Justice Pratapa rejected this claim. The Justice explicated that tying the definition of a woman to biological capability is โ€œlegally unsustainableโ€ and contradicts the Constitution of India; whereas, it shall provide an equal standing for everyone before the eyes of law. Hence, this ruling did not only strengthen the constitutional rights of the trans* community in India, but also debunks the old notion of defining someoneโ€™s gender identity through their biological features alone.

Several cities in the Philippines have been embracing and adopting inclusive and progressive policiesโ€”that shall serve as an inspiration and light an initiative for the other Local Government Units (LGUs); perhaps, the countryโ€™s government itself.

Last June 10, the City Government of San Juan in Metro Manila passed the City Ordinance No. 16 entitled Recognition of Health Proxies Ordinance of the City of San Juan. After the launching of the Right to Care Card in Quezon City last 2023, San Juanโ€™s City Government adopted the ordinance making them the second LGU to institutionalize such a system. A Right to Care Card allows its cardholders to make medical decisions for their partners if needed, regardless of oneโ€™s SOGIESC, through Special Power of Attorney (SPA).

Moreover, on June 27, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte signed the Gender-inclusive Health Ordinance (SP 3416) into law. This ordinance is a step on establishing a comprehensive healthcare system in Quezon City that is inclusive, affirming, and responsive to the unique health needs of transgender individualsโ€”making it the countryโ€™s first transgender-inclusive ordinance.

These ordinances signify our win as gender advocates. Hence, we shall further our calls to make those in the administration hear us. This is a call to action for the other Local Government Units and for the Philippine Government, to create and pass bills and ordinances that cater gender-based concerns and its intersectionality. It is about time to make the Philippines an inclusive and safe country. Pass the SOGIESC Equality Bill!

The organization and its constituents are thankful to the service that the previous set of La Ligas has given to the organization, their shared advocacy, and the community itself. As for the incoming officers of the organization, the fight is not yet done. Together we will be a catalyst of change towards a more inclusive, just, equitable, and safe space for everyone regardless of their SOGIESC. Today marks the anniversary of an occurrence that once paved the way for a much freer movement of the LGBTQIA+ community in the United States. Challenging the status quo, the Stonewall Uprising defied barriers and strengthened the foundation of a progressive rainbow movement for generations to come. ๐ŸŒˆ

It cannot be denied that during those times, people in the community were often perceived as mentally ill due to their illegality. From the get-go, the concept of LGBTQIA+ community stirred discussions as it challenged the โ€œnorms,โ€ fostering institutionalized homophobia among non-believers. With cries for equal treatment, the community became fed up with societyโ€”demanding vast standards for them to take up space. โš–๏ธ

As hard as stones and rocks, the rainbow community championed their purpose and defeated apathy through a collective effort. With riots that stretched over six long days, people of colorful accords were able to alter the trajectory of LGBTQIA+ activism in the land of the free. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆAs the star-spangled banner graced over the atmosphere, the Stonewall uprising became a leeway for the rainbow community to finally break the darkest chains of the past. โ›“๏ธโ€๐Ÿ’ฅ

Today, we still face atrocities and hardships in acquiring space and amplifying our calls. And as a community that shares the same aspirations, let us brace ourselves to create an impact meant to last long. ๐ŸŒป

Mga mars, teh, beks, at allies, gora na sa history because today, we're talking about the most colorful, most powerful, and most fabulous day na ipinaglaban, hindi lang para sa rights, kung โ€˜di para sa right to be unapologetically YOU. ๐Ÿ’ƒโœจ

The first time LGBTQ+ Equality Day was declared, it wasnโ€™t just another mark on the calendar; it was a loud, proud, fabulous scream of existence. ๐Ÿค It is also a profound declaration, a powerful call to honor love in all its forms, to stand up for human dignity, and to assert that no one should ever have to fight to be seen, accepted, or loved for who they truly are.

Offices began holding SOGIE sensitivity trainings, schools organized forums on gender identity, and local governments showed support through ordinances and inclusion policies. ๐Ÿ“œ Suddenly, the rainbow wasn't just a symbol; it was a movement. And to our beloved LGBTQ+ community: Your existence is beautiful. Your truth is powerful. Your love is valid, and your rights matter today, tomorrow, and always. โœจ

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ And let this day be a pledge that we will continue to break barriers, cultivate open minds, and create spaces where everyone can live freely, authentically, and without fear. โœจ

Charot, seryoso โ€˜to!

It was a loud, proud, and colorful declaration of existence, resistance, and identity. Designed by no other than the fabulous, artistic, and openly gay Gilbert Baker, the flag became the symbol of the LGBTQ+ movement, isang makulay na laban para sa pagkakapantay-pantay, karapatan, at pagkilala. ๐Ÿšบโ™€๏ธโ™‚๏ธ

Baker, na tinawag din na "gay Betsy Ross," was commissioned by the legendary gay politician Harvey Milk, na isa ring icon ng laban para sa q***r rights. Harvey told Gilbert, โ€œGurl, we need a flag. Hindi pwedeng wala tayong representation. Dapat โ€˜pag sumayaw tayo sa lansangan, kita agad na we're here, we're q***r, and we're proud!โ€ Kaya ayun, gumawa si Baker ng magic, sewing the first hand-dyed, hand-stitched flags na may walong colors. Critically speaking, this flag went beyond aesthetics. It became a visual protest, a rallying cry, and a call for global q***r solidarity. Pero syempre, hindi lahat bet 'to. Some conservatives say it's just "too much", but girl, whatโ€™s too much is decades of oppression, stigma, and invisibility. Ang Pride flag is not just about parties or paandar sa Pride March. It is a historical reminder

So, sa susunod na makita mo โ€˜yang flag na โ€˜yan sa kalsada, sa sticker ng jeep, sa profile pic ng tita mong ally, or sa bag ng teacher mong woke, onโ€™t just see it as cute or artsy. Remember the herstory, the blood, sweat, tears, and sequins behind it. โ€ And honey, our soul? Kasi kami? Ready na ready na to start the Pride Month. Alam na this โ€” Pride is not just pa-cute sa rainbow flag. At sa PLM, hindi lang tayo nagce-celebrate,

Pride is our response to a world that constantly tells q***r people to stay silent, to hide, to conform.
Pero ngayong Hunyo, ating isisigaw:

And remember, Pride Month isnโ€™t just a celebration but itโ€™s also a protest and a reminder of the struggles that paved the way for our community, the rights we are still fighting for, and the voices that continue to demand justice and visibility. This Pride Month is a reminder that you're ๐๐„๐•๐„๐‘ ๐€๐‹๐Ž๐๐„, you are part of a community that dreams of a more loving and accepting world. ๐Ÿ’—
PLM Propaganda stands firm as we begin:
๐ŸŒˆ

Tara naโ€™t sabay-sabay tayong sumigaw ng:
โ€œ๐Œ๐€๐Š๐ˆ๐๐„๐Š๐ˆ, ๐‡๐”๐–๐€๐† ๐Œ๐€๐’๐‡๐Ž๐Š๐Ž๐“!

This month, and always, we stand in solidarity.

Mabuheyyy~ Happy Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day! โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฉต

๐ŸŒˆโœจ Today marks an important and empowering day: Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day! Itโ€™s a celebration of love, identity, and acceptance for people who experience attraction beyond traditional genders. Whether you identify as pansexual, panromantic, or simply support the community, today is about recognizing and honoring the diverse experiences that make each of us unique.

Every story matters, and every voice deserves to be heard. Pansexuality is about loving people regardless of their gender, and pan romanticism is about feeling romantic attraction without gender being a defining factor. These identities challenge societal norms and help create a world where everyone can feel free to be authentically themselves without fear or judgment.

Propagandista! Let's use this day to raise awareness, educate others, and foster a community of love, understanding, and acceptance. Remember, love is loveโ€”fluid, limitless, and beautiful. Celebrate yourself and others, and continue to shine a light on the importance of visibility and representation. Together, we can build a more inclusive world where everyoneโ€™s true self is celebrated.

Happy Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day! ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆโœจ
