JESS NAVARRO
Jun. 24, 1948 – Nov. 22, 2025
The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) joins the nation in mourning the passing of cinema legend JESS NAVARRO (born Jesus Navarro).
Tito Jess, as he was fondly called in the industry, is hailed as one of the pillars of editing in Philippine cinema. Spanning many decades in service, he worked with countless movie icons and national artists such as Lino Brocka, Ishmael Bernal, and Marilou Diaz-Abaya.
Apart from bagging numerous awards from other institutions, he also won eight best editor awards in FAMAS for “Sister Stella L.” (1984), “Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit” (1991), “Ikaw Pa Lang Ang Minahal” (1992), ”The Sarah Balabagan Story” (1997), “Jose Rizal” (1998), “Sidhi” (1999), “Bagong Buwan” (2001), and “Naglalayag” (2004). During the 70th Platinum Jubilee of FAMAS Awards, the master editor was proclaimed as Hall of Famer.
We gratefully return him to God’s embrace as we celebrate and honor his memory. May his achievements in Philippine film industry perpetually guide current and future editors and artists in service of our nation.
