When you start doing things differently, the opinions come fast. “Masyado pang bata.” “Sayang lang pera, ‘di naman niyan maalala.” “Baka ma-trauma.”
But here’s what they didn’t see: static routines, a recent move, and a boy who is the first great-grandchild with zero peers his own age. He is the definition of the panganay na bunso, and as much as we love being his main crew, we knew he needed to see a world outside of just us.
So we trusted our gut and did the trial class.
The verdict? Zero tears. Just pure, focused curiosity.
A few weeks in and the shifts are real. He’s calmer. He’s choosing to flip through books over watching TV (even if he still tries to bite the pages sometimes 🫣). He’s actually engaging with toys instead of just playing with the packaging.
And if we’re being completely honest? That 1 hour to ourselves thrice a week? It did absolute wonders for our marriage and our productivity. Winning on both fronts.
To the parents getting unsolicited advice for doing things differently: you are the driver of this ship. People will always have an opinion on your timeline, your budget, and your parenting style. Listen to your kid, trust your instincts, and drown out the noise. They don’t see the full picture—you do. 🤍
