With the Philippines' data center industry booming and poised to become Southeast Asia's next digital frontier, Energy Undersecretary Rowena Cristina L. Guevara issued a call to action: the time to green its power demand is now. She underscored both the immense opportunities and the critical challenge in ensuring this growth is sustainable from the start.

In her presentation at the Siemens Tech Forum 2025, Undersecretary Guevara emphasized that the country’s data center capacity is projected to surpass 500 MW by 2028, with global players scaling up operations in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Further, Usec Guevara stressed that this growth “must be powered by clean, green, and reliable energy,” aligning with DOE’s long-term transition strategies—ranging from solar and wind expansion to early coal retirement and smart grid technologies.

As the Philippines positions itself as Southeast Asia’s digital backbone, the DOE message was clear: energy transition is not optional—it is the foundation of sustainable growth.
