This is amazing coach thanks for this ๐
If Iโm about to start my bookkeeping career again like itโs 2018 all over againโฆ
No experience. No portfolio. No course certificate. No confidence (yup sobrang baba talaga)
Just meโฆ and the desire to change my life.
I would probably do the same thing I did before.
And maybe this will shock you - lalo na kung bago ka lang sa channel na to (Char)
I didnโt enroll in a course. I didnโt have a mentor.
Alam ko naman ang bookkeeping.
Accounting graduate ako. I studied debits and credits. I passed exams. I memorized theories.
I survived accounting subjects.
But, I never really used it fully in my corporate job. So parang back to zero talaga ako
I was doing tasks. Following systems. But I wasnโt handling an entire set of books. I wasnโt analyzing real business cash flow. I wasnโt cleaning up messy accounts from scratch.
So when I decided to start freelancing in 2018โฆ
I realized something.
Having a degree is different from being confident.
I knew the concepts. But I didnโt know how to apply them in the real world, alone.
And thatโs where most accounting graduates feel stuck.
You know the theory.
But you doubt the ex*****on.
So what did I do?
I didnโt enroll in a course.
I didnโt wait for someone to spoon-feed me.
What I had?
WiFi. Google. And honestlyโฆ pressure. ๐
I went back to basics, not because I didnโt know anything, but because I wanted to understand it differently this time.
Not for exams. But for clients.
I searched:
โHow does bookkeeping actually work in a small business in the USA/UK?โ
โHow do you clean up messy books in QBO or Xero?โ
โWhat does a real Profit & Loss look like from a client account?โ
โHow do you do bank reconciliation step by step in QuickBooks?โ
I wasnโt trying to be perfect. I wasnโt trying to impress anyone.
I was just trying to bridge the gap between what I learned in school and what businesses actually needed.
And that changed everything.
Because hereโs what most beginners donโt realize:
They think they lack intelligence.
Pero sa totoo lang they lack exposure.
Thereโs a difference.
In school, we solved clean problems.
Balanced worksheets.
Perfect examples.
In real life?
Clients have duplicate entries.
Uncategorized expenses.
Missing transactions.
Loans they forgot to record.
Stripe, PayPal, Wise, multiple bank accounts โ halo-halo na.
And thatโs when I realizedโฆ
Bookkeeping isnโt about memorizing theories.
Itโs about solving messy problems calmly.
So if I were starting again in 2026?
Hereโs exactly what I would do.
Debit/Credit/Journal entries, understand the difference between sales invoice and bills - lahat ng basics
โข Understanding Bank Statements, Credit Cards and Payment Gateways statements
โข Understanding how money flows in a business
โข How transactions affect reports
โข How Profit & Loss tells a story
โข How Balance Sheet reflects health
If you understand that? Hindi ka na maliligaw.
QuickBooks.
Xero.
Even Google Sheets.
And I would not just watch tutorials.
I would click. Break things. Fix things. Redo things.
Because confidence does not come from watching.
It comes from doing.
Walang client? Fine.
Iโd download sample transactions.
Create a dummy company. Practice reconciliation. Generate reports.
Because waiting for someone to โgive you experienceโ is a trap.
You build it.
This is where most accounting grads struggle.
Weโre used to being โprepared.โ We want to be 100% sure before moving.
But freelancing? It rewards movement.
So I would remind myself:
You donโt need to know everything. Kasi knowing everything will take forever, and sometimes di mo talaga malalaman lahat without you actually doing it sa real clients. So youโll never know everything sa simula talaga. It will take time
BUT you just need to know more than the client about their books.
Read that again.
You just need to know more than the client about their books.
And most business owners?
They donโt want to do bookkeeping.
Thatโs why theyโre hiring.
Even if I feel behind.
Even if others look more experienced.
Even if my confidence is still shaking.
Because in 2018, I applied knowing I wasnโt the best.
But I was willing. And willingness opens doors that perfection never will.
If I were starting in 2026, I wouldnโt overcomplicate it.
I wouldnโt spend 1 year โpreparing.โ
I would:
Learn.
Practice.
Apply.
Improve.
Repeat.
Over and over.
Because bookkeeping is not about talent.
Itโs about consistency.
And if youโre reading this thinkingโฆ
Baka hindi ka kulang. Youโre just unused to betting on yourself.
And maybe 2026 is not the year you take another course.
Maybe itโs the year you finally take action.
If this feels personal, comment โREADY NA.โ
Letโs see whoโs actually serious this year.
