Another day, another reminder:

Someone out there who can't afford a phone/a pc, can't afford rent, earning below 15k a month, barely paying off their bills, even those who are in hospital beds, are praying... hoping they could get the same privilege as you do.

To live.

To do the things they really love doing.

To pursue their dream careers.

To feel the freedom of being human.

Thinking about what it feels like to be like those people who are blessed with a good life.

Then there's you, having these advantages. Procrastinating because it's getting hard.

Do realize this: Most people would go 5x harder if they had the privilege you have.

Think about it. Don't waste it.

If you were a leader, you have a responsibility. People who follow tend to judge leaders. I was once a follower. I once judged a leader who was trying.

But when I became one, I understood the situation. Most people misunderstood our choices, even telling me what to do better than what I decided to do, stabbing me behind my back because they hadn't heard the struggles I kept, so I can keep leading them.

It's the worst place to be, but we took risks to be in the front, unlike the others. We chose to stand up and take the first step before I let anyone take that step.

I wasn't born with the skills of a leader; I learned them one by one because I had to. I have a dream, and I don't want myself to follow along and get dragged. I choose myself to embark on my journey, no one else. But I chose to invite people to come along and learn alongside me. Some might oppose, some might leave, some will keep going.

To lead comes with great responsibility.

Ps. This topic is not political.

"Bad-tempered client"

Now, let's focus on the positive part of my journey. I have a client from London who happened to refer his brother.

This guy? is ill-tempered, isn't tech-savvy, and doesn't have a clear idea of how video editing works.

He talks like he's the big boss and I have to follow along 😂

He demands urgency, putting me under pressure, which is my biggest red flag from a client. But... he paid in advance and immediately instructed me on what to do. No calls needed, just a brief—clear instructions on a single file, with an explanation of why it's a rush project.

He's actually the "masungit" type of guy.

Sometimes he made me feel like I need to be more persistent with my job 😂

I feel so small 🤣

Even so, since I do this for a living, I was confident I could provide him with a quick turnaround. just a couple of hours, without sacrificing quality.

After a short time he was pressuring me, I delivered in one go. Complete delivery, in high HD resolution, with visuals and effects—half an hour before the deadline.

Then his behavior changed when he saw the edit. He appreciated my dedication to it.

He knew he could count on me.

That's how professionalism works between two parties. It doesn't matter if we have opposite personalities, as long as they show they care, don't complain about your rate, and truly value your skill.

No excuses. No delays. Just a clear transaction until the work is done.

"That's the price of being a freelancer."

I lost so many times. It didn't happen just once, but several times.

Kahit VA or Freelancer, people will just keep abusing you.

Kahit may agreement. They'll pressure you, follow up with deliverables, but when it comes to your inconvenience, they don't care anymore.

As a freelancer on the creative side, it's the worst place to be - to feel people wanting your skill, to produce quality, highly engaging visuals, but don't really value your work.

Recently, I've seen posts similar to mine. Because most of us Filipinos who work from home are considerate. As long as the relationship is great so far, we're fine.

But when the final part comes, and it's already making an invoice, they happen to avoid communication and let you rot waiting for them.

I understand we need money, lalo na sa panahon ng crisis, to survive another day.

But for the very last time, tama na sa pang aabuso.

Coming from their own mouth, it's so hard to find freelancers who are dedicated and persistent. Because they absolutely know it's hard to produce content on your own without a hand of a professional. It's hard to create video ads that convert. Who understands pacing, storytelling, and how to hook viewers in the first 2-3 seconds.

You're paying for a skill that takes us a lot of time and investment to be a reliable service provider.

I am so disgusted and frustrated when people don't understand how valuable our skills are, given the fact that they can't do it without the help of the creatives.

Even though we need money to survive here in this circus country, do not settle for a client who talks so much but lacks in action. Who offer promises, but to no avail. And someone who offers a long-term relationship, but avoids you when an issue comes up. It's so unprofessional.

I hope we find the right clients who take the time to find a freelancer as dedicated as they are.

This is the last time abusive clients can just take advantage of freelancers. This is bullsh*t.

Attached photos context? That's them responding but vague. No reassurance, screenshots, tracking link, anything that'll give me a relief. And no, they're not local. They're an overseas agency who can speak tagalog.

I still don't want to expose them. I still want to end this in a professional way but I don't know until when.

Most businesses want perfect service providers; they focus on their company. I’ve been there. They don't care if you perform well or not.

All they care about is the "result".

I survived not only because I am determined to pursue my career and grind all day, but because there are people who believed I could do it.
