The Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Maragondon Campus (PUP-MC) conducted its Freshmen Orientation for Academic Year 2025-2026 today, August 29, at PUP-MC Gymnasium. NAGAGANAP NGAYON | Pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika

Isang makulay at makabuluhang pagdiriwang ang nagaganap ngayon sa ating sintang paaralan bilang paggunita sa Buwan ng Wika. Ito ay isang selebrasyon upang ipakita ang ganda at yaman ng ating wikang Filipino. Sa pamamagitan ng iba't ibang aktibidad, ipinapakita natin ang ating pagmamahal sa wika at kultura.

EDITORYAL | BSKE: Bukas Sa Korapsyon ang pagpapaliban ng Eleksyon

Sa kabila ng mga pumuputok na isyu na nangangailangan ng atensyon, mas napagtutuunan pa rin ng pansin ang mga problemang dapat ay isinasantabi muna. Gayunpaman, ang mga hindi nangangailangan ng bagong probisyon ay siya pang nabibigyan ng pokusโ€”isa na rito ang papalapit na Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2025.

Nitong nakaraang Agosto 13, nilagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. ang batas na magpapaliban ng BSKE 2025โ€”ang Republic Act 12232โ€”na kung saan ang nasabing eleksyon na nakatakdang maganap sa ika-unang araw ng Disyembre 2025 ay ililipat sa unang Lunes ng Nobyembre 2026 na babagsak sa ikalawang araw ng nasabing buwan. Ayon kay Marcos, ang pagpapaliban ng BSKE 2025 ay upang pagtuunan ng pansin ang kauna-unahang parliamentary elections ng Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)โ€”na siyang โ€œmost-sensibleโ€ at โ€œmost common sense solutionโ€ upang mas maayos na maisagawa ang BARMM parliamentary elections sa ika-13 araw ng Oktubre. Magkagayon man, ang paglilipat ng araw ng eleksyon sa ikalawang araw ng Nobyembre ay makakasagasa sa Araw ng mga Kaluluwaโ€”araw na dapat ay nakalaan sa paggunita ng mga mahal sa buhay na namayapaโ€”na siyang hindi pinag-isipang mabuti at isinaalang-alang sa pagpirma ng batas.

Ayon naman kay Attorney Romulo Macalintal, isang veteran election lawyer, ang RA 12232 ay โ€œrecycledโ€ version ng nauna nang batasโ€”ang RA 11935 na nilagdaan ni Marcos noong 2022โ€”na hindi sinang-ayunan ng Korte Suprema at idineklarang โ€œunconstitutionalโ€. Dagdag pa niya, ang pagpapaliban ng BSKE ay unconstitutional dahil wala itong valid reason. Kung kayaโ€™t ang paggamit ng salitang โ€˜reschedulingโ€™ kaysa โ€˜postponementโ€™ ay isa lamang maskara upang mapagtakpan ang tunay na intensyon ng batas at linlangin ang taong-bayan. Gayundin, ito ay upang makaiwas sa parehas na desisyon ng Supreme Court (SC) noong 2023 dahil sa parehas na constitutional and legal flaws na mayroon ang parehas na batas.

Sa kabilang banda, isinasaad din sa RA 12232 ang pagpapahaba ng termino ng BSK officials. Magiging apat na taon na ang dating tatlong taong termino ng mga opisyal sa ilalim ng Local Government Code of 1991. Ngunit hindi babaguhin ang probisyon na nagsasabing maaring tumakbo ang Barangay officials sa tatlong magkakasunod na termino o aabot sa 12 taong pagkakaupo sa posisyon. Ang pagpapahaba sa termino ng mga nakaupo ay pagbibigay ng โ€œfree passโ€ sa mga trapo na โ€œmagnakawโ€ sa kaban ng bayan.

Kung susumahin, ang pagpapasa ng batas sa pagpapaliban ng eleksyon ay isa lamang hakbang na magreresulta sa pagiging maluwag ng laman ng Saligang Batas. Hindi na ito ang una, at mas lalong hindi ito ang magiging huli upang manipulahin at patuloy na baguhin ang mga batas na matagal nang nakatalaga at hindi nangangailangan ng pagbabago.

Bukod pa rito, ang pagdadagdag sa taon ng termino sa Local Government Units (LGUs), partikular na sa BSK, ay panlabas na intensyon lamang na maaaring maging hakbang sa pang-aabuso at korapsyon hindi lang sa pera na nararapat sa bayan, kundi pati na rin sa kapangyarihan. Hindi pagpapahaba ng termino ang solusyon, bagkus ay ang panghihikayat sa mga tao lalo na sa mga kabataan na maging sangkot at makilahok sa darating na eleksyon at gamitin ang kanilang karapatang bumoto sa matalinong paraan. Sapat na ang maraming taon ng pagdurusa sa kamay ng mga trapong politiko.

JUST IN | SUSPENSION OF WORK AND CLASSES

Work and classes for all levels in all PUP campuses across Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Laguna, Camarines Sur, and Leyte are suspended on August 26, 2025, due to inclement weather.

The Freshman Orientation has been rescheduled to August 29, 2025 (Friday), from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

News | PUP Maragondon Leads 2025 Bloodletting to Save Lives and Inspire Hope

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines โ€“ Maragondon Campus (PUP-MC) held its 2025 bloodletting activity titled โ€œDrop by Drop We Save Livesโ€ on August 22, 2025, at the campus gymnasium.

The event was organized in partnership with the PUP-MC Medical Office, Central Student Council (CSC), Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. โ€“ Northern Cavite Chapter, and the Philippine Red Cross Cavite Chapter.

It aimed to promote health awareness and civic responsibility by fostering community involvement through life-saving blood donations.

A total of 25 volunteers from PUP-MC students, faculty, and staff participated in the activity.

Eligible donors were required to be in good health, at least 18 years old, weigh a minimum of 50 kg, and have a clear medical history.

Participants were reminded to have at least eight hours of sleep, eat a light meal three to four hours prior, and avoid alcohol, smoking, or medications before donating.

Donors with recent wounds, allergy attacks, tattoos, piercings, major surgery, or tooth extractions were not allowed to participate.

Those experiencing cough, colds, or feeling unwell were also discouraged from donating to protect both the donor and recipient.

The volunteers were advised to bring valid identification, wear comfortable clothing, and immediately inform medical staff of any discomfort during the process.

Through this initiative, PUP-MC strengthened its advocacy for health awareness, civic responsibility, and community service while offering hope to patients in need of blood.
