โTo write with courage, integrity, and to base every report, story, and news on truth,โ was the challenge for the third year of the annual University Press Conference (UPC) 2025-2026 of Central Mindanao University (CMU), during which The Mentor of the College of Education (COEd) was hailed as the overall champion.
Hosted by the universityโs official student publication, The Central Post (CP), the UPC 2025-2026 was held at the Farmers Training Center (FTC), with the theme โPamamahayag sa Gitna ng Kaguluhan: Katotohanan Bilang Sandigan,โ on February 21, 2026.
The event was formally opened by the CPโs Editor-in-Chief, Ms. Krysia Nicole Boquila. The event was also graced by the presence of the University President, Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, who gave a special message that highlighted the role of journalism as a weapon for truth.
For this yearโs press conference, Atty. Ruby L. Melecio-Villejo was the keynote speaker, who emphasized the importance of journalism to the public.
Additionally, in attendance were the universityโs 10 respective college publications: the newly established The Cipher Lens from the College of Information Sciences and Computing (CISC), Aggie Bulletin from the College of Agriculture (COA), The Executive Page from the College of Business and Management (CBM), The Rainforest from the College of Forestry and Environmental Science (CFES), The Gateway from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Home Views from the College of Human Ecology (CHE), Vox Veterinarius from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), The Nightingale from the College of Nursing (CON), The Mentor from the College of Education (COED), and The Engyneourโs Digest from the College of Engineering (COE).
After the contest proper for individual and group categories, both in English and Filipino, the participants united for a solidarity dance and participated in the โAnoโng kuwentong RSPC/NSPC mo?โ segment.

For the News Writing English category, the first spot went to The Mentor, second spot to The Engyneourโs Digest, and third spot to The Executive Page. Meanwhile, for the Filipino category, The Engyneourโs Digest took the first spot, The Mentor took the second spot, and The Nightingale took the third spot.
For the Editorial Writing English category, the Aggie Bulletin finished in first place, with The Cipher Lens in second place, and The Engyneourโs Digest in third place. For the Filipino category, The Executive Page bagged the first spot, followed by Vox Veterinarius in the second spot, and The Nightingale in the third spot.
For the Feature Writing English category, the first spot went to The Nightingale, the second spot to The Gateway, and the third spot to The Mentor. For the Filipino category, The Executive Page took the first spot, Aggie Bulletin took the second spot, and The Mentor took the third spot.
For the Editorial Cartooning English category, The Gateway finished in first place, The Executive Page in second place, and Aggie Bulletin in third place. For the Filipino category, Aggie Bulletin bagged the first spot, The Rainforest the second spot, and The Cipher Lens the third spot.
For the Science and Technology Writing English category, The Engyneourโs Digest bagged the first spot, The Gateway the second spot, and Vox Veterinarius the third spot. For the Filipino category, Aggie Bulletin landed in the first spot, The Nightingale in the second spot, and The Engyneourโs Digest in the third spot.
For the Sport Writing English category, The Executive Page took the first spot, The Mentor took the second spot, and The Nightingale took the third spot. For the Filipino category, The Executive Page finished in first place, The Gateway in second place, and The Nightingale in third place.
For the Copyreading and Headline Writing English category, The Engyneourโs Digest bagged the first spot, The Executive Page bagged the second spot, and Vox Veterinarius bagged the third spot. For the Filipino category, The Mentor landed in first place, Vox Veterinarius in second place, and Home Views in third place.
For the Photojournalism English category, The Mentor finished in first place, Aggie Bulletin finished in second place, and The Executive Page finished in third place. For the Filipino category, The Mentor took first place, Aggie Bulletin took second place, and The Executive Page took third place.
For the Radio Broadcasting, The Mentor bagged the Best Anchor and Best News Presenter awards. Meanwhile, the Aggie Bulletin took the awards for Best in Technical Application and Best Script and The Nightingale as Best Infomercial. Overall, for the Best Radio Production, The Mentor triumphed in first place, Aggie Bulletin in second place, and The Executive Page in third place.
The UPC concluded with The Mentor as this yearโs Overall Champion, bagging multiple wins from both individual and group categories, followed by Aggie Bulletin finishing as first-runner up, The Executive Page as second-runner up, The Engyneourโs Digest as third-runner up, and The Gateway as fourth-runner up.
The competition brought about the universityโs finest journalists. And whether in victory or not, one mission persists: to further cement Walter Williamโs Journalist Creedโto serve the people, to write for the truth and nothing but the truth; โA journalism of humanity, of and for todayโs world.โ
