Starting the day by sharing with you this beneficial email..
Assalamuʿalaikum dear readers,
Alhamdulillah, Friday is upon us again. On this blessed day, we should keep in mind that Fridays are full of blessings. Let’s start our day by reading Surah Al-Kahf, one of the surahs that is highly recommended to read on Fridays.
Abu Sa'id reported the Prophet as saying,
“If anyone recites surah Al-Kahf (Qur’an, 18) on Friday, light will shine brightly for him till the next Friday.”
(Hasan Mishkat al-Masabih 2175)
This hadith highlighted one of the blessings of reading Surah Al-Kahf on Friday. To understand the blessings of Surah Al-Kahf, we should first understand the lesson of the surah. There are 4 stories in this surah, teaching us 4 prominent lessons from each story that can be applied in today’s time. Have you read or heard the stories told in Surah Al-Kahf? Let us share the lessons emphasised in this surah with you!
Lessons from Surah Al-Kahf
1. Trial of Religion
Surah Al-Kahf highlights the story of the people of the cave, which is where the surah got its name from. The people of the cave faced the risk of being murdered because they worshipped Allah. But, due to their perseverance, Allah blessed them with immense blessings. This story teaches us the strength of faith and trust in Allah’s protection, even when society stands against us.
2. Trial of Money
This is the tale of a rich man who owned two gardens. He became arrogant and boastful after becoming rich, saying that he was rich because Allah (s.w.t.) loved him. Allah punished him and took all his wealth back, leaving him poor. This is a powerful reminder of humility and the temporary nature of wealth and status.
3. Trial of Knowledge
Prophet Musa (a.s.) is the epitome of a humble man. Despite being acknowledged to be among the 5 greatest prophets to have ever lived, he still went to Al-Khidr and learned from him. Prophet Musa’s (a.s.) story highlights the value of patience, humility, and humbleness.
4. Trial of Power
This is the story of Dhul-Qarnayn, the man who was tested with power, kingship, and control of people. He overcame this trial by always remembering that Allah is a greater power, the ultimate king. This story is a lesson on leadership, justice, and the responsibility of using power for the greater good.
Blessings of Surah Al-Kahf
Reciting this surah brings immense blessings, providing light and guidance throughout the week, as mentioned in the hadith above. Let’s embrace these lessons and allow them to guide our thoughts, actions, and relationships as we navigate life’s challenges.
As you read Surah Al-Kahf today, reflect on these stories and how their teachings apply to your life. May Allah bless our efforts and grant us light and understanding.
Jazakhallah khayr, thank you for joining us this Friday. See you again next Friday, InshaʾAllah.
With love,
