I was watching Friar’s Desk Special hosted by Father Dexter, where the spotlight was on Ms. Kara David. She shared a story that really struck me.

They were catching fish in the river, and she suggested:

“Why don’t we use a huge net so we can catch as many fish as possible? That way, we won’t go hungry tomorrow.”

The fishermen just laughed and replied:

“Why would we catch more than we need? One fish is already enough to fill me. Besides, tomorrow the river will still provide. God will still provide. But if we take everything today, the river might not give us anything tomorrow.”

And that’s when I realized: sometimes the people society calls “uneducated” are the ones who teach us the most valuable lessons. Lessons we don’t always see in the so-called “educated.” Because often, it’s the educated who exploit and take advantage.

True wisdom lies in knowing how to take only what is due you today. Greed destroys tomorrow. Simplicity, contentment, and respect for natural balance are far more valuable than ambition without conscience.

Flood control projects where public funds were stolen. It’s like casting a giant net to hoard fish you don’t even need. Leaving nothing for others, and worse, destroying the source itself.

Corrupt officials enrich themselves today, but at the cost of people’s safety and survival tomorrow.

A true leader should be content, mindful of the future, and respectful of what is entrusted to them. But when greed takes over, both the people and the generations to come are the ones who suffer.

Fed Up and Fighting: Voices of the People

I can’t just scroll past what’s happening in the streets of the Philippines.

Thousands are out there demanding accountability and an end to corruption. Some protests are intense, some peaceful, but behind all this, people are standing up because they’ve had enough.

Not everyone understands the cause, and some use it as an excuse to destroy or hurt. But the real fight isn’t about chaos. It’s about justice, integrity, and the future of our country.

Every voice matters, every stand matters. âœŠđŸ‡”đŸ‡

Corruption doesn’t just steal money. It steals our trust, our hope, our children’s future. This fight isn’t theirs alone. It’s ours.

“Preparing the Next Generation Beyond Academics”

I came across this news about Senator Robin Padilla filing the “Anti-Pabebe Bill” (Senate Bill No. 1300).

The title sounds funny, but the idea makes sense. It’s about teaching life skills in school, not just academics. Think gardening, sewing, cooking, household repairs, and financial literacy.

And honestly, I get the point. Many of us graduated without really understanding algebra. I memorized formulas, passed exams, but in real life? I never used them. But at least I can cook rice and boil an egg. 😆

Beyond that? Planting veggies or fixing chairs? Uhh
not really my thing. And let’s be real, agriculture in the Philippines isn’t as simple as “plant and wait,” especially with typhoons destroying crops. Agriculture is science. It’s about the timing, soil quality, weather, proper techniques, which makes it more complex than it sounds.

Some might argue, “Isn’t this the parents’ job?” Ideally yes, but not all parents have the time, money, or knowledge. Others will say, “Why bother? I’ll just pay someone else.” But what if you’re alone and need to handle things yourself? These lessons aren’t about turning kids into carpenters or farmers. They’re about self-reliance and respect for work.

Of course, it won’t be easy specially for teachers that are already overworked, and many schools lack resources. For this bill to work, it needs proper funding and support.

Still, I think the heart of it is right. To raise a generation that’s not just book-smart, but life-smart. Because real life doesn’t test us with algebra equations. It tests us with survival, independence, and resilience.

What do you think? Should schools really include life skills like cooking, planting, and budgeting in the curriculum?

Someone once asked me what luxury bag I would want to receive as a gift. Of course, they were expecting me to say Louis Vuitton because that’s usually the default, right? But he was surprised when I said I wanted a Longchamp Le Pliage.

They asked, “Are you sure? That’s not really considered luxury.”

And I replied: “Longchamp has its own charm. If you place it on a shelf next to an LV, most people would probably go for the LV first. But I would still choose the Longchamp. For me, true beauty and elegance don’t need to scream for attention. Even without saying a word, some people will still notice its grace. It may not be the first choice, but it’s the one you look back at, the one that lingers in your mind, the one you learn to truly appreciate.”

That’s how I see myself, too. I don’t need to be the loudest or the most obvious choice. My worth speaks quietly, and the right people will recognize it again and again. 😊

The Closure I Gave Myself

There are days when I feel calm, days when I just cry, and days when I feel so much anger whenever I remember him. I guess that’s part of healing, right? I reached a point where, because of my pain and resentment, I forgot to see that I also had shortcomings, not just towards him, not just in our relationship, but more importantly, towards myself.

I allowed myself to drown in emotions and kept silent about the things I should have said, out of fear
 fear of losing him.

But I’ve learned that no matter how much you watch over someone, hold them, or beg them to stay, if a person truly wants to leave, they will leave. I may not have gotten the closure I wanted, but sometimes you have no choice but to accept things as they are.

I didn’t beg him to stay, because I promised myself: “If you leave, don’t come back.” Yet deep inside, I still wished he would return.

As time passed, I realized that I cannot control another person’s heart, but I can control how I choose to love myself. Healing doesn’t always come with closure from another person. It comes with acceptance, with taking accountability for my own shortcomings, and with the courage to finally let go. And maybe that’s the real closure. Learning to stand back up, even without the answers I thought I needed.

This is about choosing yourself enough to finally move forward.

“Words Become Actions”

I used to love posting and sharing quotes that I would try to apply to what I was feeling, or sometimes to indirectly send a message to someone. But eventually, I realized that most of the time, those quotes didn’t even reflect their true meaning.

Sometimes I would just use them to justify my own issues, or worse, to express my anger towards a person.

Before I decided to stop, I took some time to self-reflect and asked myself: “Do these posts really help me? Am I truly learning from them, or am I only making the situation heavier?”

I even questioned, “Do I really practice what I preach?” Because honestly, it’s hard to share a quote if I don’t truly live by it. The truth is, I was only doing it out of anger and resentment.

Now, I choose to be more intentional and conscious about what I post. I don’t want to be someone who only speaks but doesn’t act. I’d rather put out things both online and in real life that help me grow as a person, instead of adding more noise and negativity around me.

Because at the end of the day, true growth doesn’t come from the quotes we post, but from the lessons we choose to live out every day.
