Sharing My Unsolicited Advice: Transitioning to Freelancing
I want to share some unsolicited advice on transitioning to freelancing.
Learning the pros and cons is essential so you can plan for a smooth shift.
Always be one step ahead—having a backup plan is crucial.
If freelancing doesn't pan out, having a will help you continue earning and support your daily expenses.
My husband and I were both employed for almost five years before we took the leap of faith to resign during the pandemic.
It turned out to be the perfect timing for us to transition fully into freelancing.
Here are some tips for you🥰
1. Find your Niche- Flexible on your current work in the corporate.
Finding a niche where you can offer services without juggling too much alongside your 9-to-5 job is key.
While it's true you can't serve two masters at once, you don't have to manage them simultaneously. Work one client at a time.
After my day job, I spent my evenings learning a niche, applying for gigs, and eventually landed my first client.
The rest is history……
2. Plan with Your Partner
We planned to resign during the pandemic and we have both decided that Daddy will be the first one to resign I will follow once we plan out everything.
The pandemic just expedited our plans. Before the pandemic, we already planned to resign by June 2020 to do family vlogging and continue our freelancing journey.
Having a and shared goals is essential. We understood and supported each other’s goals, knowing we were looking at the same destination.
3. Prepare Financially
Once you've landed your first client and have a good grasp on managing your time, it's time to plan for long-term goals.
Determine how much you need to sustain your family and cover all your bills, including SSS, PAG-IBIG, PHILHEALTH, and taxes. So, setting your monthly income goal is IMPORTANT.
4. Resign When Ready
Resign only when you're ready to take the risk and your existing client is stable enough to rely on.
Make sure your skills are competitive and can offer real solutions to clients.
I took the risk and resigned without savings but had one full-time client to replace my corporate salary.
Working part-time as a VA before the pandemic while in my corporate job helped me understand the freelancing industry better.
I hope this advice helps future aspiring freelancers.
