โ€œThis program ensures we are financially protected from incurring high cost of medical fees,โ€ Almanon said.

As part of its commitment to universal healthcare, PhilHealth Region III has ensured that 100% of cadets, faculty members, and staff of MAAP are provided with PhilHealth numbers and PhilHealth IDs.

โ€œ[Universal Healthcare] Ensuring 100% of cadets, faculty members and staff of this community are given PhilHealth numbers and PhilHealth ID,โ€ Almanon added.

Supporting this advocacy, VADM Eduardo Ma R. Santos AFP (Ret.), President of MAAP, highlighted the significance of cadets maintaining their well-being, noting that they also receive funds for the infirmary.

โ€œWe also get some funds for infirmary and this is important for cadets to maintain their well-being,โ€ he emphasized.

Adding to the celebration, Ens. Edson R. Lingad was recognized for his outstanding achievement as the nationwide grand winner of PhilHealthโ€™s Digital Poster Making Contest.

In line with the theme โ€œKapanatagan,โ€ his winning entry titled โ€œFOSTERING TRANQUILITY: Envisioning a Healthier, Happier Nation,โ€ encapsulates the essence of PhilHealthโ€™s mission.

It was a quiet day. The calm wind served to hush the usually savage waves of the pier. The sunset painted the ocean and the sky in an orange hue with the sun taking its leave on the far horizon. Two figures can be seen on the busy pier as they both watch the waves calmly crash on the pier side. Sad smiles can be seen on both of their faces as they knew that this day would come for them.

โ€œSo, I guess this is it then. The time that you will be leaving me behindโ€. Gem could only choke back her tears as she gripped on tightly to the hand of her lover.

โ€œDon't say it like that, you know that I will be back after a whileโ€. Darcy sighs as he takes her other hand and decides to face her for their final goodbye.

The challenge of loving the seafarer, the days that the two will be together will be undeniably sweet and filled with love, but when the sea calls for him, he is forced to leave her side. Months of distance, months of cold loneliness without the warmth and touch of her significant other. She already knew that these challenges and days would come, but nothing will ever prepare her for the loneliness that would follow.

โ€œWhat if something bad happens to you? What if you get tempted by someone else and what if you find another lover overseas? I don't want to lose you.โ€ She could not hold back herself anymore as the tears now poured down freely. Her face is now a mess as she lets loose the floodgates of emotions that she feels. A handkerchief suddenly finds its way to her face. She looks up to see that he is wiping away all of her tears. He looks at her with the same sad smile that she has, but his eyes were filled with adoration and love for her.

โ€œThose words mean a lot to me. It's not that you don't trust me, but it's because you are afraid of losing me. Don't you ever worry, from the moment that we shared our first letters to the first date that we had and even up until now, I see you as the treasure that I will forever cherish. That's why I call you Gem, you are my diamond in the rough that can never be replaced.โ€

It is true what they say, NO amount of distance nor separation will be able to beat true love. Even if your destined lover is on the other side of the world, you will stay strong no matter the distance.

A gentle hand cups Darcyโ€™s cheek as she begins to caress his face. โ€œYou always knew how to put me at ease, you always knew how to set my beating heart still in the face of all worry, my charming gentlemanโ€.

They gently close the distance between the both of them as they give each other the warmest and most sincere hug. Time seemed to slow down as they tighten their hug with no intention of letting each other go. As the horn of the ship blares off in the distance, warning them that they are about to depart, they break their hug and their tears flow freely once again. They stare into each otherโ€™s eyes as they are both at a loss for words, yet, in the silence of their embrace, the words that they wanted to tell were felt.

โ€œClose your eyesโ€, as she reluctantly does so. She feels a gentle kiss on her forehead and opens her eyes to greet him, filled with longing and adoration. โ€œI promise you, my dear Gem, that no matter where I will be, my heart will only belong to you. Even in the cold waters of the Arctic or the hot deserts of the Middle East, I will only ever belong to youโ€

โ€œI promise you too, My Darcy, that no matter how far you are, I will wait patiently for you. Longing for you each day, patiently waiting for my gentleman to come back to the heart that he ownsโ€

With one last embrace, they finally pull apart.

โ€œI love you, Gem, happy Valentineโ€™s my loveโ€

โ€œI love you too, Darcy, happy Valentine's Day to you too!โ€

She watches as her lover disappears into the steel behemoth that he will call home for months. Yet, the heaviness in her heart is now gone. For love that is true and genuine will wait.

โ€œUntil next valentines, my dear seafarerโ€

VADM Eduardo Ma R. Santos, president of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific, urged the MAAP family to sustain its record-breaking drive last 2024 during the New Yearโ€™s Call 2025 attended by its faculty, staff, and officers at the Don Emilio Bldg. on January 05, 2025.

This yearโ€™s slogan, โ€œLetโ€™s continue the record-breaking drive in 2025!โ€ encourages the Academy's departments and staff to build on their unparalleled performance from the previous year, reinforcing MAAPโ€™s standard of excellence and pursuit of being a world-class maritime institution.

VADM Santos proudly highlighted the accomplishments that the Academy received in the previous year. These include the recognition received from the Applied HE Private University 2025, where the MAAP ranked 4th in Teaching & Learning and 54th overall in the ASEAN Region, and the recognition from nubiapage. com, where the academy was ranked 8th amongst the best maritime schools in the world in 2024.

VADM Eduardo Santos featured record-breaking departmental milestones, such as the Board of Admissionโ€™s (BOA) record-setting input of 585 probationary midshipmen from the Class of 2028, and the Center for Advanced Maritime Studies (CAMS), which celebrated its highest number of postgraduate program graduates to date, with 24 scholars completing their studies.

Recall of recent innovations in the Academy were mentioned including the implemented memorandum of MIITD with Aprendio of Denmark for the Green Skill Academy and the start of using the Electronic Training Record Books of Class 2024 as managed by the DST.

Looking ahead, the president remarked on the completion of the IMEC building and new equipment coming this year to continue to provide the cadets with enhanced training required for maintenance crew for offshore wind farms.

Furthermore, the president encouraged everyone to remain innovative and proactive in improving the competence of the cadets, OICs, management-level officers & ratings onboard conventional and modern ships.

The event concluded with a breakfast celebration for the attendees.

The New Yearโ€™s Call is an esteemed annual tradition, now in its 26th year, held on the first day of classes each year. Hosted by the president, this event brings together the entire MAAP community to reflect on the activities and achievements of the preceding year, present the plans for the upcoming year, and renew friendships and camaraderie.

In the midst of the cold winds and dark skies of the night, laughter and rhythm were heard as a miraculous celebration was held. An enchanting celebration that was full of excitement and bliss, filling the air with surreal magic as the fleet held the 200th NiteShow Celebration of the Class of 2025 with the cooperation of Class 2026.

In the essence of childhood memories and progressive experiences entailing the hardships of life alongside the joy of redemption and love, featured was the fleetโ€™s very own version of the movie โ€œEncantoโ€œ, filled with lovely stories, lively songs, and life lessons that not only portray the brilliance of charactersโ€™ lives and beauty of their possessed magic โ€” one that filled not just the fascination of wonder but mostly the miracle that brings the family together and highlights their love for one another.

The story follows Mirabel (2CL Dela Rosa) who was born without magic in a family that was blessed with various helpful abilities. Despite it, Mirabel still had her quest for ways to help out her family even without having her own magic. Alongside her siblings, she takes on various tasks until the time comes when a premonition occurs that leads the family to disarray. She uncovers the family's history, the magic candle that has long blessed their magic has slowly become dim . She convinces and awakens everyone that something is wrong with the magic. However, Abuela (1CL Pactes) tells her to stop with the nonsense that has taken root amongst her family due to her assumptions. Mirabel found out that magic is slowly disappearing, so she took on the task of saving the miracle with the help of Bruno (2CL Jamero). When all was said and done, Mirabel and Bruno poured out all their souls to express their care for their family by giving their might into saving the miracle. It is now up to Mirabel to take action and do the right thing.

A Journey Of Hope And Love Unfolds

Set in the remote village of Columbia called Encanto, the various characters played by the cadets of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific has told the tale of magic and the journey of redemption and love. Placing them altogether in a magical twilight of graceful dances, heartfelt songs, and remarkable stories.

Played in front of VADM Eduardo Ma. R Santos AFP (Ret), Capt. Gerlo L. Elchico PN (Ret), Dr. Leogenes L. Lee PhD, MAAP Staff, Alumni, and the Midshipman Fleet. Showcasing the talent and tradition of the academyโ€™s cadets, highlighting one of the core values of the academy which is FAMILY, they began the countdown for 200 days before the Graduation of VALHAREANS, CLASS of 2025 1ST BATCH.

Culmination of astonishment and realizations of lessons for the present and for the chapter to unfold could be attained as doors of possibilities and fulfillment constantly open to each and every hopeful life. It is necessary to keep in mind that magic is not only found in nor defined by fantasy and fabulous perfection, but also in the hearts of each and every one of us that hold imperfectly perfect love and sincere faith which traverses the journey of the marvelous thing called life.
