The Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) officially launched Season 3 of the MAAP Sportsfest on 24 June 2025 at the MAAP Gymnasium, uniting departments and staff in a spirited celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie.
Four teamsโ€”Team Admin (White), Team Acads (Black), Team Acad Support (Blue), and Team Mixed (Red)โ€”are set to compete in a series of athletic events, showcasing their skills, competitive drive, and unity.

Captain Patrick Glen Gamet, a MAAP alumnus and the instructor-in-charge of the event, delivered an energizing opening message to motivate the participants.
โ€œKeep the record breaking. Letโ€™s keep the drive alive this 2025. This is not just another sportsfest; rather, it is a showcase of cheers, wits, and grits. Sail forward, MAAP,โ€ he said.

The Es**rts and Muse segment followed shortly after, highlighting the elegance, confidence, and creativity of each teamโ€™s representatives.

In the Muse category, Ms. Edlyn Grace Ilano of the Admin Department claimed first place, followed by Ms. Irish Pangilinan of the Mixed Department in second. Dr. Leonora Dela Cruz of the Acads Department secured third place, while Ms. Jeri Anne Villar of the Acad Support Department completed the lineup.

For the Es**rt category, Mr. Fritz Baligad of the Acads Department took the top spot, followed by Ensign Willie B. Cerezo from the Admin Department. Engineer Vicente Torio of the Mixed Department placed third, with Engineer Marlon Bulan of the Acad Support Department rounding out the list.

MAAP President, VADM Eduardo Ma. R. Santos AFP (Ret), also delivered a message, emphasizing the deeper purpose behind the gamesโ€”holistic development through healthy competition.

โ€œThis event develops your emotional aspect, leadership, and teamwork. Have a very successful sportsfest, para lahat ay masaya,โ€ he stated.

The opening ceremony continued with the oath of sportsmanship led by 3/E Canay, followed by an energetic zumba session performed by the midshipmen and midshipwomen of MAAP Dynamics.

The first sporting event of the day featured a dominant performance by Team Acads (Black) in the womenโ€™s 3x3 basketball, defeating Team Admin (White) with a score of 11โ€“1. In a closely contested match, Team Mixed (Red) triumphed over Team Acad Support (Blue) with a final score of 11โ€“9.

Three more eventsโ€”tug-of-war, 5x5 patintero, and dodgeballโ€”are set to take place in the coming days, as the teams continue their pursuit of the championship title and the pride of representing their respective departments.

Every June 25, the world pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the maritime industry โ€” our seafarers. These men and women brave the vast, unpredictable oceans to keep global trade alive, connecting continents, fueling economies, and delivering the essentials of daily life. Often unseen but always essential, seafarers are the driving force behind the worldโ€™s supply chains.

The Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) stands tall in this global celebration, honoring its cadets, alumni, and maritime professionals who embody courage, discipline, and commitment. As a premier institution in maritime education, MAAP continues to forge world-class seafarers โ€” leaders at sea who uphold the highest standards of excellence, safety, and service.

Held at the New Parade Grounds of MAAP, the event marked the official entry of Class 2029 into the regimented life of maritime training.

From a competitive pool of more than 8,900 applicants nationwide, just 591- comprising ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿต ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฎ ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€ - earned admission, marking the largest incoming class in MAAPโ€™s history.

The day began with admission procedures, followed by a dialogue between MAAP President VADM Eduardo Ma R Santos AFP (Ret) and the parents of the incoming cadets.

In the afternoon, VADM Santos graced the event with an inspirational message emphasizing the importance of shared growth, character development, and lifelong values.

โ€œYou have come from different places all over the country, from different walks of lifeโ€”but today, all 591 of you will begin to walk one path together. You are chosen to train, to serve, and to lead,โ€ VADM Santos stated.

He reminded them that the academyโ€™s mission extends beyond academics: it is to develop leaders grounded in honor and integrity.

โ€œWe teach not only education. We teach values that last a lifetimeโ€”Virtus. Fides. Disiplina,โ€ he added.

The probationary midshipmen will undergo a 32-day Indoctrination and Orientation Period (IOP), focused on physical, mental, and regimental training then will culminate on the Incorporation Ceremony, which will officially mark their entry into the fleet.

Few hours before contact.
This is your final advisory before your first transformation.
Godspeed.
There comes a time in every celestial bodyโ€™s orbit when it must accelerate, slingshot past gravity, and enter a new trajectory. That time is now, Probationary Midshipman.
It is like a vessel, purposely-built and storm-tested, to carry you into unknown waters. You are not merely stepping onto concrete ground; you are stepping into a gravitational field where discipline is the force, and time... is the tide.

I still remember mine. The morning of Reception Rites. My neurons were firing erratically like an overcharged circuit, where fear, anticipation, nausea, resolve overwhelms my mind. I was Schrรถdingerโ€™s cadet: both brave and terrified, both ready and not. They say the universe began with a bang. Mine began with a whistle.
And that moment, that first call to attention, felt like the first spark of fusion inside a star.
What awaits you is no ordinary institution. You will learn not just to navigate oceans, but to navigate yourselfโ€”your faults, your failures, your fears. Your days will be spent ruled by training, governed by regulations, and measured not in comfort, but in conduct. You will be broken down, not to weaken you, but to remove the excess mass, like a hull shedding barnacles, so you may become seaworthy.
It is said that friction is necessary for motion. Likewise, youโ€™ll find that pain, hardship, and rejection are not anomalies but are the very forces that propel you forward.

๐ˆ๐ง ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ž๐ฑ๐ก๐š๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, remember the very reason you came, hold on to that reason and anchor it to your heart. Youโ€™ll hear voices yelling loud enough to burst your ears and rearrange your brains. And as your civilian instincts melt under the heat of maritime rigor, you will feel the change.

The first time you iron your uniform with machine precision.
The first time you carry your rifle.
The first time your name was called as a midshipman.
The first time you donโ€™t flinch when the clock strikes ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฌ๐—›.

Youโ€™ll feel yourself harden like tempered steel though still flawed, still learning, but resilient.
You will fall. You must. Even the most stable vessel rolls. There will be nights when the moon looks foreign through the porthole of your fatigue. When your ribs echo the sound of your own breath, and you ask yourself if youโ€™re enough. You ask the divine presence for signs to continue and the universe for signs to stay.

But you were not built for the harbor. You were built to brave hurricanes of doubt,
to read charts of your own emotions, to decipher the morse code of failure into a signal of growth. The ship does not ask the storm to soften. It reinforces its hull. And neither will you ask for less burden, only broader shoulders.
Your classmates? They will become your constellation. Your crew. Your mirror and map. The sea does not reward lone ships. From this day forward, you navigate together, or you drift apart.
Years from now, youโ€™ll look back and understand that this day wasnโ€™t the hardest day of your life. It was just the start of the best decision you ever made.
You will learn to carry not just your name, but the name of this institution. Youโ€™ll represent not just your batch, but every cadet who came before you. And one day, when you're sailing across oceans or standing as an officer, youโ€™ll remember this exact moment from the nerves, the fear, the excitement and realize that it was here, in this place, that your story truly began.

To those feeling overwhelmed or uncertain, to those who are currently in ๐——๐—œ๐—ฆ๐—ง๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—ฆ๐—ฆ take this message as a spark of encouragement and a reminder that every great journey begins with discomfort. Let this be your signal to rise, endure, and embrace the challenge ahead.

Nature of Transmission: Emotional, mental, and spiritual fatigue
Current Status: Underway, soul on transit

This is a distress call, not for rescue, but remembrance. A signal from a soul currently in transit, navigating the waters of transformation. I send this not to be pulled from the waves, but to remind you, who will soon enter them, that the storm is survivable and even beautiful, if you know where to look.

Entering into the Academy is different from boarding a ship. Itโ€™s disembarking from who you were. You will feel stripped of everything from your hair, time, comfort, and identity. Youโ€™ll hear your surname shouted more times in a week than your full name at home in a year. Youโ€™ll run without asking why, stand still when your legs scream โ€œmove,โ€ and speak only when spoken to. But what feels like breaking down is, in truth, being built. This is not punishment. This is preparation.

Heart rate surges like a vessel under high wind, not from fear, but from the sheer weight of becoming.
Vocal cords stretch under strain, learning to speak with clarity, but also to remain silent with discipline.
Homesickness hits like phantom pain, an ache where comfort used to be.
Muscles tremble not only from physical drills but from carrying the invisible weight of expectations, legacies, and the haunting voice of self-doubt.

Fog rolls in the deepest parts of the sea of the mind.
You will question your heading. You will second-guess your compass.
And yet

I navigate somewhere between โ€œI canโ€™tโ€ and โ€œI must.โ€
That uncharted region is where true cadets are made. In the quiet moments when no one is watching. In the internal battles fought before dawn. In the mundane feeling of an endless cycle of routines. In the mornings you want to stay in your bunk but rise anyway. In the nights where homesickness howls louder than the whistle. In the moments you choose to endure, again and again.

Cadet-in-waiting, take heed: If you come here looking for perfection, leave that at the gate. Bring grit instead. Bring your why. Pack light, but hold heavy things, things anchored in your heart like purpose, and pride. There will be days when you feel invisible, unheard, unseen. But even shadows require light to exist. And I promise, itโ€™s there. Youโ€™re not just applying to a school. Youโ€™re signing a silent contract with the sea: โ€œMake me stronger than I was, no matter how rough the tides.โ€
This place will keep its end of the deal. So must you.

You will experience all Distress in all kinds of situations.
But hold on to your reason, embed it within your mind, and anchor it deep in your heart. Let your conviction, faith, and tenacity propel you forward to sail and survive.
Signal ends...
but your journey begins.

It is now two days before the reception rites of the MAAP Class of 2029. Witness them as they take their first steps within the hallowed grounds of the academy, marking the beginning of their arduous but worthwhile journey toward a fruitful maritime career.

๐ˆntegrity guiding, steers with a strong hand.
๐repared for the rough ocean, and all it may bring,
๐Œasters of self, on the cusp of the wing.
๐€ll fears now conquered, by courage profound,
๐ew horizons beckon, on the academyโ€™s hallowed grounds.

The Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific honors the independence of our beloved country today, 12th of June 2025, by raising the Philippines' magnificent flag. This day commemorates the Filipino people's tireless efforts and sacrifices in liberating the country, enabling it to stand proudly on its own. As citizens and future world-class seafarers of this cherished country, let this be a celebration of freedom, culture, and patriotism under the pride of the national flag.

Let this day be dedicated to bolstering the Filipino people's fortitude and in demonstrating their passion for this nation's liberty. A tribute to those who have lost their lives in the battle for freedom and to keep fighting for the future prosperity and advancement of the countryโ€”a flag that represents our identity is a symbol worth fighting for.

Happy Independence Day from the patriotic midshipmen fleet and staff at the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific!
