“The 3-Second Rule That Changes How Your Kids Talk to You”
Mga Inay, let’s be honest.
We think we’re good listeners.
Pero madalas, habang nagsasalita anak natin… iniisip na natin sagot. Or worse, we interrupt agad.
“Mom, can I—”
“Hindi pwede.”
“Mom, I feel—”
“Wala yan, maliit na bagay.”
👉 The problem? Kids stop opening up.
Not because they don’t want to talk… but because they’ve learned na they won’t be heard.
💡 The 3-Second Rule
Next time your child talks, try this:
Pause for 3 seconds before replying.
Count silently: 1… 2… 3.
What happens in those 3 seconds?
✔️ Your child feels na may space siya to finish.
✔️ You actually hear the whole thought, not just the first half.
✔️ Your reply becomes calmer, not reactive.
Demo Time 👇
Child: “Mom, ayoko sa math, ang hirap.”
Usual reply: “Kaya mo yan, mag-aral ka lang.” (shutdown agad)
With 3-Second Rule: “…” (pause)
Then: “Anak, tell me what part is hard for you.”
👉 Instead of advice agad, you invite conversation.
Why It Works
Children don’t need parents who always have the fastest answer.
They need parents who give them the safest space to speak.
And minsan, yung tatlong segundo na yun ang difference between a child who shuts down… and a child who keeps sharing.
✨ Moms, ask yourself:
👉 “Am I replying to my kids… or am I truly listening to them?”
