Running student council candidates and students gathered at Enrique Tet Garcia (ETG) Hall, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Mariveles, Bataan Campus for the Miting de Avance 2026 for upcoming student election. This was conducted yesterday, May 23, 2026.
The program officially started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and an opening prayer, followed by the opening remarks delivered by Mr. βFrancis Deplomo, Chairperson of the Student Council Commission on Election (SC COMELEC). During his speech, he discussed the overall flow of the program and emphasized the importance of student participation in elections.
He also shared that student involvement in voting is already a practice of responsibility, saying that seeing students united for the upcoming elections is inspiring.
βAng magpapabago ay yung korektibong pagkilos natin.β he said.
Phase 1 of the program focused on the introduction of all candidates and presenting their platforms. Candidates introduced themselves and presented their General Plan of Activities (GPOA), allowing students to learn more about their goals, plans, and proposed projects if they got elected.
Meanwhile, the phase 2 focused on the Open Forum, where different questions from the Iskolar ng Bayan were raised to the candidates. Some candidates were able to answer the questions, while others were unable to respond because of limited time.
The questions focused on leadership, how candidates plan to handle different issues, and how they will use their positions if elected. Questions related to some of the candidates' Fast Talk responses were also raised during the discussion.
One of the questions raised during the forum was, βBukod sa mga pangako, ano na ang nagawa ninyo para sa kapwa estudyante bago pa man kayo tumakbo?β
Jonh Carl Dhaniel Bayang, Councilor candidate of Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE), responded by emphasizing the importance of listening as a leader.
As a leader dapat neutral nating inaayos yung mga problema.β he said.
Another question raised for John Kinedy Briones, a Councilor candidate from Management College Council (MCC).
βHow will you handle disagreement or conflicts with other representatives or councilors?β question for John Clarence Padua a councilor candidate from Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE).
"Disagreement comes from different opinions of every people. Pag-usapan mismo, pag-usapan ng maayos, at pagsama-samahin lahat ng ideaβ he said.
Eduardo Teodoro, Councilor candidate from Education College Council (EdCC) was asked βPaano mo gagamitin ang iyong posisyon upang epektibong maihatid sa administrasyon ang tunay na mga hinaing ng mag-aaral?β
βGagamitin ko po yung skills and talent ko para maipahatid sa administrasyon yung gustong iparating ng mga mag-aaralβ he said.
Questions related to student involvement and advocacy were also raised during the forum.
Meanwhile, Jane Almodovar, Councilor candidate from Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) was questioned regarding her previous Fast Talk responses.
The program continued with Phase 3: Tapatan, where candidates from different parties shared their views on several national and campus issues. Topics included the abolition of the 4Ps Program, abolition of Sangguniang
