On February 11, 2026, a life-changing accident happened along the slippery road of Putsan, Tiwi, Albay. What seemed like an ordinary day suddenly turned into a painful and frightening moment for our family as my nephew, Jhon Leslie “Boboy,” figured in a critical motorcycle accident that changed everything in an instant.
Right after the accident, he was immediately rushed to Ziga Memorial Hospital in Tabaco City for emergency medical attention. Despite the severity of his condition, the doctors and medical staff acted swiftly and did everything they could to stabilize him. We are deeply grateful to the attending physicians and healthcare workers of the hospital for their dedication, compassion, and immediate response. Before endorsing him to another facility, they made sure that his condition was properly managed and monitored.
Due to the seriousness of his injuries, Boboy was later transferred to Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) in Daraga, Albay for further treatment and intensive care. According to the doctors, he was already in a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3, which is considered the lowest possible score on the neurological scale used by medical professionals to assess a patient’s level of consciousness after a severe brain injury. A GCS 3 means that the patient shows no eye opening, no verbal response, and no motor response, indicating a very critical and life-threatening condition. At that moment, his survival became uncertain, and every second mattered.
For two weeks, Boboy remained intubated, relying on a breathing tube inserted through his mouth to help him breathe while his body fought to recover. Seeing him in such a fragile condition was heartbreaking, but we held on tightly to faith, prayers, and hope. Eventually, the doctors advised the family to proceed with a tracheostomy — a surgical procedure where an opening is created in the neck leading directly to the windpipe to provide a safer and more long-term airway support for patients who require prolonged breathing assistance.
Day by day, little by little, Boboy began showing signs of recovery. Though the journey was far from easy, his strength, determination, and the continuous efforts of the doctors, nurses, therapists, and everyone involved in his care became instruments of healing. After 40 long days in the hospital filled with prayers, uncertainty, sacrifices, and miracles, the doctors finally gave the wonderful news that he was already stable enough to be discharged.
Indeed, Boboy’s healing journey is a testimony of faith, resilience, and God’s grace. From being in a critical condition with very little chance of recovery, he continues to fight and recover each day. His story reminds us that even in the darkest moments, miracles still happen through prayers, love, and the kindness of people who never gave up on him.
