Truly, every voyage has its pauses. But without that light of hope, support, and guidance, continuing can quickly become a mess.

Like the lighthouse, parents provided the light that helped graduates navigate early storms. Now, as they receive diplomas, certificates, and medals, they step into deeper waters—watched from a proud, safe distance.

Looking back, it feels like just yesterday they were holding tiny hands. Now they watch from afar as those same children march across the stage with pride.

And with gratitude, every step infront carries not only the graduate’s dreams, but also the wishes their parents have nurtured for years. As they stand before the crowd with wings spread and applause ringing out, there are a mother’s... father’s eyes... a guardian’s eyes—cheering silently, because no more words are needed; decades of shared sacrifice live in a single look and a joyful smile.

In their minds, they know they raised a child ready to fly. Even in their eyes, you can almost read it: “It’s their time to chase the brilliant sky.”

Moreover, graduation is the go signal for a new beginning—a beginning full of surprises, of unexpected challenges, of unwanted plot twists, and of problems entering the scene. Now while the institution may have shaped these youth instilled with excellence, but there is also a silent sculptor in the crowd.

So when a graduate walks across the stage, the world sees a solitary figure — all thanks to the one standing behind them.

But to the families in the audience: you are the lighthouse for these graduates. You put them in the spotlight so opportunity would not would knock on their door. 𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚.

𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬 | 𝗡𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿

There is a curious way in which Providence chooses to crown a victory. Some are welcomed by bright mornings, garlands, and gentle applause. Others are met by darkened heavens and rain so relentless that it seems the very sky has mistaken celebration for mourning. Ours was the latter.

The clouds gathered without mercy, and the rain descended upon every cap and gown as though to remind us that the road to this hour had never been easy. Yet no one fled. We remained where years of quiet sacrifice had led us. We stood with soaked sleeves, trembling hands, and hearts too full to notice the cold. 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘬𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯.

Looking back, I have come to believe that the rain was no accident. It was the final page of a story already written with sleepless nights, whispered prayers, disappointments borne in silence, and hopes protected when they seemed most fragile. We often imagine triumph arriving beneath clear skies, but life has never been so obliging. Some stories begin under clear skies. Mine began in the middle of a storm.

As I raised my diploma against the falling rain, I realized that it was never just a piece of paper. It was proof that endurance leaves its own mark upon the soul. The storm did not diminish the moment, but rather, it gave it character. Long after sunshine is forgotten, I shall remember the weight of the rain upon my shoulders and the certainty within me that 𝘯𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦, 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘦𝘥.

Perhaps that is the finest lesson graduation has offered me. Life will not always grant calm seas or cloudless mornings. There will be tempests yet to weather, mountains yet to climb, and roads yet unknown. But if I could walk into my first great victory beneath a storm and still lift my head with gratitude, then I need not fear what lies beyond.

There will be other storms in the years to come, fiercer than the one that greeted my graduation. Yet I shall meet them without fear, for I have already learned a truth that no tempest can overturn: the fiercest battles are not won beneath clear skies, but within an unyielding heart. And because of that, 𝙣𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙄 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗱 𝗢. 𝗗𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴

Amid the seemingly unceasing rain, the words of Class Valedictorian Dan Lloyd O. Dacillo of Davao Oriental State University's Bachelor of Business Administration major in Financial Management program became more than the evening's most anticipated source of inspiration. Rather than offering certainty, his speech invited the graduating class to embrace a different way of understanding the realities that shape every person's journey.

As human as he is, Dan Lloyd admitted that he, too, had once been lost. People often asked him what he was really doing, and eventually, he found himself asking the same question. Yet despite uncertainty, he kept showing up. It was this quiet perseverance, more than unwavering confidence, that carried him through every season.

"𝘿𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙, 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙗𝙩, 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢, 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣," he encouraged.

Behind those words was a journey marked by difficult choices and relentless perseverance. He transferred schools, shifted degree programs, and faced financial insecurity that often made even dreaming seem like a privilege reserved for others. But these experiences did more than test his resolve—they reshaped the way he understood the world.

As a full-time working student and a son, Dan Lloyd realized that personal struggles are never isolated from society itself. They are deeply intertwined with the systems that govern people's everyday lives.

"We are poor. Politics should interest you, because indifference is corruption in itself," he declared.

This conviction was not born in classrooms alone but in lived experience: witnessing his parents' sacrifices, his sister leaving to work overseas, watching classmates carry burdens of their own, and recognizing the quiet hardships endured by countless Filipinos. Through these realities, politics ceased to be a distant topic of debate. It became something lived and felt every single day.

From this understanding emerged a broader call for responsibility. Dan Lloyd reminded his fellow graduates that to understand reality is also to refuse silence—not only in the face of the challenges confronting their own communities but also of wars, injustice, and humanitarian crises unfolding beyond the country's borders. In a world increasingly shaped by polarization and misinformation, he challenged them to become advocates of critical thinking and active citizenship.

Returning to the central message of his speech, he reminded the graduating class that every struggle, every setback, and every unanswered question forms part of the lifelong process of becoming.

"We become the regenerative tools," he declared.

Dacillo's story reminds us that becoming is not about arriving at certainty. It is about allowing every challenge, every sacrifice, and every difficult question to transform us. To become, as he suggests, is first to unbecome—to let go of old assumptions, confront reality with courage, and continually reshape ourselves so that, in understanding the world as it is, we may also find the strength to change it.

Furthermore, in his valedictory speech, the student from the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Major in Financial Management, Dan Lloyd O. Dacillo, shared his heartwarming speech on hope, pride, and purpose, as he reflected on his experiences on embracing the discomfort of life’s journey towards success.

“Pursuing greatness comes with great risks. So, no matter what life's big waves throw at us, we must learn to embrace it,” Dacillo remarked, underscoring the idea of remaining true to one’s purpose, and moving forward despite life's adversities; his story, just like many graduates, shows how success comes from facing the battles, and not by avoiding it.

Moreover, Dr. Roy G. Ponce, delivered his inspiring address on the three principles he marked to the graduates as they embark on a new chapter of their lives—to remain teachable as a way of success towards lifelong learning; being trustworthy as a definition to build character; and to live every place better than they found it as a way to foster change and progress.

“Tomorrow, society will look to you for wisdom, compassion, competence, and courage. Carry your alma mater with gratitude,” stressed Dr. Ponce, urging the graduates to carry the identity, pride, and principle instilled by the university’s excellence.

Finally, as the carpets had been laid, so is their paths yet to unfold; As tassels had been turned, also signals their turn to carry the qualities they armed with, and to become tools of inspiration for others—because striving towards excellence and championing tomorrow.

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) - Main campus held its baccalaureate and recognition program on June 25, 2026, at the university grandstand to acknowledge the triumphs and accomplishments of AY 2025-2026 graduates.

The ceremony commenced after the baccalaureate services given to the graduates at the university grandstand for the Eucharistic Roman Catholics; Evangelical Christians’ worship service at the engineering annex building; and Muslims’ Islamic lecture at the graduate school library.

In his baccalaureate address, the DOrSU alumnus keynote speaker, Dr. Teody O. Ramon, delivered an inspiring message on resilience, attitude, yield, and service, after reflecting on his experiences to the harsh reality of life’s challenges.

“Every single time I was denied an opportunity, it wasn't the end of my story. It was just a redirection to a grander stage,’’ said Dr. Ramon, emphasizing that excellence and opportunities transcend far beyond through resilience, passion, and purpose.

Moreover, the university president, Dr. Roy G. Ponce, addressed an inspiring speech that reminded the awardees a purpose to strive towards service, stewardship, and action as they carry the qualities and potentials they have cultivated at the university “Don't forget to connect with DOrSU, your alma mater, wherever you are. Wherever you go, become people who regenerate”, Dr. Ponce Stated.

Furthermore, the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Roy M. Padilla, offered his closing remarks to the graduates, urging them to carry the university’s regenerative mindset, not just in fortifying one’s resilience amidst life's challenges, but also as stewards of a better future.

The baccalaureate and recognition program marked the culmination of the graduate's years of academic hard work, honoring their achievements and preparing them for future endeavors through the values and excellence instilled by the university.

‎In celebration of the successful completion of the National Service Training Program (NSTP), Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) NSTP held its Graduation Ceremony for the class 2025-2026 on June 2, 2026, at the University Oval Grounds, with the theme, “Empowering the Youth Towards Responsive Community Service and Nation-Building.”

‎University President Dr. Roy G. Ponce formally confirmed and recognized the 1,502 graduates from the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), 467 graduates from the Literacy Training Service (LTS), and 399 graduates from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)—who participated in a separate graduation ceremony earlier that morning—were officially confirmed and recognized for their hard work, dedication, and leadership demonstrated throughout their NSTP journey.

‎“The core of your NSTP journey is volunteerism,” Dr. Ponce emphasized during his congratulatory message to the graduates.
‎
‎Dr. Ponce also noted that as an NSTP graduate, words such as readiness, security, and safety are necessary to a responsive service for the community, engaging to help address social and community problems.
‎
‎“We are not just sending you off with certificates, but releasing you into the world ready to serve, proudly wearing the banner of DOrSU,” he added.
‎
‎Moreover, guest speaker Reginrex Pusta underscored the idea of being a catalyst of change; he said that being the catalyst requires initiative, courage, and will to lead and leave an impact within the community.
‎
‎“Be the catalyst of change, embrace the spirit of volunteerism, and be regenerative thinkers,” Pusta urged.

‎The ceremony also featured the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) Oath of Honor and Responsibility, administered by NSRC Coordinator Philip Salimaco, formally welcoming the graduates into a lifelong commitment of service and nation-building.

Another year inscribed onto its growing legacy of institutional service, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) commemorated its 5th Foundation Anniversary with a celebration themed ‘G.R.O.W.T.H. In Action: Driving Regenerative Futures through Resilience, Innovation, and Service,’ held on May 28, 2026, in the DOrSU Oval Field.

For this celebration, university administrators, faculty members, students, alumni, and distinguished guests gathered in a commemorative celebration which placed the university’s institutional developments into perspective through messages and discussions from university officials and guests.

Among the personalities present were Hon. Thelma Z. Almario, founder of the Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST); Myr. Joel Mayo Z. Almario; and Mrs. Jessica M. Lumapas, Principal of Mati National Comprehensive High School, who served as the event’s guest speaker.

In his State of the University Address, University President Ponce anchored the university’s trajectory on the G.R.O.W.T.H. framework, emphasizing goals centered on global recognition, research excellence, optimized accreditation, world-class digital transformation, thriving curriculum, and holistic development as key directions for DOrSU’s continuing advancement. It is primarily summarized in the SUA where University President Ponce reported that the university posted an overall physical accomplishment rate of 126.95 percent, exceeding its 100 percent target by more than a quarter.

Almario opened the archival history of the university, retracing its transition from Mati Community College to the Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technolgy (DOSCST) under the Republic Act 6087, and later to Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) under R.A. 11033, hallmarking the institutional and legislative journey of its present identity.

Complementing this historical account, Hon. Thelma stressed her message on resilience; Mrs. Jessica M. Lumapas, shared a reflective account of her own journey as a student in the institution, saying, “It took me almost 10 years to finish my degree here,” where she emphasized the resilience, she associated with both her personal experience and the institution.

The program also featured the recognition of various Presidential Awards, including Outstanding Researchers under the Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE) 2025 program, as well as personnel recognized for excellence in service, achievements in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), and categories honoring outstanding and loyal employees.

The commemoration was further enlivened by performances from the Dagmay’ani Dance Troupe and Quadtone, adding cultural dimension to the event.

Recognition echoed through the Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) Activity and Student Centers as the university honored 2,292 PARANGAL awardees during PARANGAL 2026 on May 26, 2026, recognizing the academic achievements, leadership, service, and contributions of students and organizations across the institution.

The annual recognition program highlighted special awards, scholastic distinctions, service recognitions, outstanding student leaders, and student organizations, alongside the recent accomplishments of the DOrSU Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Unit during the Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI) 2026. The event recognized not only measurable accomplishments but also the persistence and effort behind them.

In his message, SUC President Dr. Roy G. Ponce highlighted the perseverance of students amid uncertainties and the continuing pursuit of excellence despite difficulties.

“Despite what is happening in the world, we still have student achievers,” Ponce remarked.

Meanwhile, keynote speaker Atty. John Rey Codilla underscored that recognition extends beyond awards and grades, emphasizing the lived experiences and challenges behind student success.

“We gather here not only to celebrate grades and recognitions, but to honor the real journeys behind excellence,” Codilla said.

Throughout the ceremony, students and organizations from main and extension campuses were recognized for accomplishments shaped by academic rigor, leadership, service, and perseverance. For many awardees, this reflects balanced coursework, organizational commitments, and personal challenges.

Beyond medals, certificates, and photographs, PARANGAL 2026 served as a recognition of the diverse journeys that shaped achievement within the university community, affirming in commitment to acknowledging excellence in many forms.
