DOST XI partners with local innovator for medical waste disposal during COVID 19 vaccination drive 📣

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the national and local government have been doubling its effort in promoting mass vaccination to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19. During the vaccination rollouts, tons of COVID-related waste are collected, and thousands of syringes and needles are thrown away after.

To address this problem on medical waste management and disposal, the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) partnered with Bluelander Environmental Services during the vaccination drive for government employees in Davao City led by the Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region XI (ARENA XI) which commenced last June 30, 2021. It is a private company in Davao City that provides affordable and environment-friendly services in medical waste management and treatment to meet the needs of hospitals and clinics.

𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓-𝐗𝐈 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐛 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬

In a bid to further promote science and technology in the field of renewable energy development in Mindanao, the DOST Region XI, in partnership with Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group, Inc., will launch the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technologies (ReSET) Center in Davao City this May 28, 2021.

The ReSET Center is a public-private research partnership on small-scale renewable energy systems for sustainable rural development. This will serve as a physical hub for technical support, training, and research. It seeks to provide a venue wherein basic and advanced technical knowledge on design and fabrication, installation, replication, operation, maintenance, repair, and system trouble shooting are done and shared.

“The Center will serve as a workshop where grassroots technicians and other people in Mindanao could raise their skills in renewable energy to a higher level as it will provide continuous opportunities for greater learning,” DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III said. With the sharing of technical knowledge and expertise, the hub will support and help sustain the renewable energy initiatives and plans of poor communities in Mindanao.

With its development integrators composed of engineers and capacity building specialists, the ReSET Center would effectively and efficiently respond to problems and anticipated needs of renewable energy-driven communities.

The said hub will be located at the newly refurbished Mindanao Science Centrum, now called Sentro Mindanaw in Mintal, Davao City.
