Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), is extending its academic expertise to support Matnog Community College as it prepares to serve its first generation of students.
The two-day Faculty In-Service Training, being held from August 6 to 7, 2026, at Matnog Community College in Matnog, Sorsogon, is part of the partnership between the two institutions to help the new community college strengthen its academic foundation before classes begin.
The training covers areas of teaching and learning, including Revised Philippine Quality Framework and CHED-OBE, Competency Mapping, Designing Meaningful Assessment for Student Learning, Designing Effective TOS and Rubrics, Designing Structured, Learner-Centered Experiences for First-Year Success, AI in Writing for Teachers, and Translating SDGs into Syllabi.
As part of the training, participants will also take part in syllabus development workshops, present their outputs, and further refine their instructional plans through feedback from the resource speakers.
Serving as trainers are Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (VP for Academic Affairs), Dr. Jordan M. Pocaan (Director, Institute of Lifelong Learning), Mr. Jaymark D. Samson (Head, Program Development and Standards), Dr. Nestor Lasala, Jr. (Faculty, CoTEd), Dr. Olive N. Mancera (Dean, Education Department, Magallanes Campus), Dr. Aaron A. Funa (Faculty, CoHaS) and Mr. Renz Alvin E. Gabay (Faculty, CoTEd), who are sharing their expertise in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and student assessment throughout the training.
Through this collaboration, SorSU continues to assist partner institutions in strengthening faculty capability and promoting quality higher education. (SorSU PIO)
