Quezon Province is placed under Orange rainfall forecast today, November 24 brought by Tropical Cyclone VERBENA according to DOST-PAGASA Weather Advisory No. 19.
While a localized announcement for class suspensions is expected by many, PAGASA clarified the key difference between a ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ณ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด and a ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ which lies in their forecast period, coverage areas, and accuracy.
In a Facebook post, PAGASA explained that A ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ณ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level. By using Doppler radar technology to monitor the intensity of rainfall in real time, it is more accurate, which makes it an extremely useful tool for making decisions in flood-prone areas immediately.
In contrast, a ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ is only issued at the provincial level and covers a 24-hour period. Although it offers a more comprehensive view of possible weather disruptions, it is not as accurate as Heavy Rainfall Warnings in the short term.
The Department of Education's Revised Guidelines on Class and Work Suspensions during Disasters and Emergencies (DepEd Order No. 22 s.2024) is only applicable with Heavy Rainfall Warnings making class suspensions unlikely as of the moment.
However, class and work suspensions depend on the announcement of respective LGU offices.
