Maydolong, Eastern SamarโThe Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong Campus marked a significant milestone on October 29, 2025, as it held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new two-storey Administration Building. The event was attended by key officials from the province of Eastern Samar and the Eastern Samar State University. The ceremony began with the shovel ceremony led by Cong. Christopher Sheen P. Gonzales, Representative of the lone district of Eastern Samar, and Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, ESSU-Maydolong Campus Administrator. They were joined by Engr. Jehela G. Roxas, District Engineer of the Eastern Samar Engineering District; BM Adelle Jo Christelle Y. Hernandez; Hon. Irvin Pormida, PCL President of Eastern Samar Chapter; and key officials of the University namely: Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, Vice-President for Administration; Dr. Jocelyn Castro, Vice-President for Quality Assurance and External Affairs, Ms. Remedios Merilles, Chief Administrative Officer.
The program formally started with the singing of the National Anthem and an invocation by the ESSU-Maydolong Faculty Chorale and ESSU-Maydolong Brass Band. Dr. Jerald P. Torillo followed with a welcome message, expressing gratitude for the project as a symbol of campus progress. Next, Ms. Remedios Merrelis, represented and read the message of the University President Dr. Andres Pagatpatan Jr., who expressed thanks for the support of Provincial leaders such as Cong. Gonzales. He highlighted the importance of teachers, noting that the new administration building would serve as a second home for the hardworking staff. Engr. Roxas, then shared her message, followed by a message from Hon. Pormida, PCL President of Eastern Samar Chapter
Then, Cong. Gonzales gave his message. In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Eastern Samar State University in its development efforts, stressing the importance of collaborative work among the government and education sectors to uplift studentsโ welfare and improve campus facilities. He also added that the new building was made through the effort of Cong. Marcelino C. Libanan, House Minority Leader and 4Ps partylist representative.
To enliven the atmosphere, Lyca Bejar and Jason Aboy performed a musical intermission, followed by an energetic dance number from the Ligayaw Dance Troupe. The program concludes with a message from Prof. Apolinario John A. Bocar, President of ESSU-Maydolong Employees Union.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks a new chapter for ESSU-Maydolong, reflecting the universityโs ongoing commitment to improving facilities and fostering academic growth for its students and staff.
