𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐔-𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠

Maydolong, Eastern Samar—The Eastern Samar State University-Maydolong Campus marked a significant milestone on October 29, 2025, as it held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new two-storey Administration Building. The event was attended by key officials from the province of Eastern Samar and the Eastern Samar State University. The ceremony began with the shovel ceremony led by Cong. Christopher Sheen P. Gonzales, Representative of the lone district of Eastern Samar, and Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, ESSU-Maydolong Campus Administrator. They were joined by Engr. Jehela G. Roxas, District Engineer of the Eastern Samar Engineering District; BM Adelle Jo Christelle Y. Hernandez; Hon. Irvin Pormida, PCL President of Eastern Samar Chapter; and key officials of the University namely: Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, Vice-President for Administration; Dr. Jocelyn Castro, Vice-President for Quality Assurance and External Affairs, Ms. Remedios Merilles, Chief Administrative Officer.

The program formally started with the singing of the National Anthem and an invocation by the ESSU-Maydolong Faculty Chorale and ESSU-Maydolong Brass Band. Dr. Jerald P. Torillo followed with a welcome message, expressing gratitude for the project as a symbol of campus progress. Next, Ms. Remedios Merrelis, represented and read the message of the University President Dr. Andres Pagatpatan Jr., who expressed thanks for the support of Provincial leaders such as Cong. Gonzales. He highlighted the importance of teachers, noting that the new administration building would serve as a second home for the hardworking staff. Engr. Roxas, then shared her message, followed by a message from Hon. Pormida, PCL President of Eastern Samar Chapter

Then, Cong. Gonzales gave his message. In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Eastern Samar State University in its development efforts, stressing the importance of collaborative work among the government and education sectors to uplift students’ welfare and improve campus facilities. He also added that the new building was made through the effort of Cong. Marcelino C. Libanan, House Minority Leader and 4Ps partylist representative.

To enliven the atmosphere, Lyca Bejar and Jason Aboy performed a musical intermission, followed by an energetic dance number from the Ligayaw Dance Troupe. The program concludes with a message from Prof. Apolinario John A. Bocar, President of ESSU-Maydolong Employees Union.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks a new chapter for ESSU-Maydolong, reflecting the university’s ongoing commitment to improving facilities and fostering academic growth for its students and staff.

The College of Education (COEd) of Eastern Samar State University – Maydolong Campus successfully conducted its one-day Performance and Management Review and Strategic Planning on October 27, 2025, at Sitio Hunop, Maytigbao, Maydolong, Eastern Samar, with the theme “PADAYON: Moving Forward with Purpose and Resilience.”

The activity aimed to review and discuss the achievements and challenges of the College of Education during the past semester. It also focused on setting new goals and plans to further enhance the college’s performance in the upcoming term. The word “Padayon,” meaning “to move forward,” reflected the spirit of the teachers and staff who continue to work diligently and stay resilient despite challenges.

The program began with participant registration, and an opening prayer. Dean Dr. Zosima Ana A. Fabula then shared the statement of purpose and highlighted the importance of moving forward with hope and a clear vision.

After the opening program, the program heads presented their accomplishment reports for the previous semester, emphasizing both achievements and areas for improvement. An open forum followed, allowing participants to share their ideas and insights. The event also included a SWOT analysis and a planning workshop to develop strategies and action plans aimed at improving the college’s performance.

In the afternoon, the activity concluded with a synthesis and commitment-setting session led by Dean Fabula. She expressed gratitude for everyone’s active participation and emphasized the value of collaboration and shared responsibility, encouraging all faculty and staff to remain united, committed, and resilient in facing new challenges.

The one-day activity served as a meaningful opportunity for the COED faculty and staff to reflect on past accomplishments, recognize their efforts, and prepare for a more productive and successful semester ahead. The event reaffirmed the College of Education’s dedication to provide quality education and service to its students. With the theme “PADAYON,” the college continues to move forward with courage, purpose, and resilience.

‎To ensure a smooth transition and comprehensive understanding of the new learning system, ESSU Maydolong will hold a mandatory Flag Ceremony and Orientation Meeting on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Student Development Center (SDC).

‎The day will commence with a Flag Ceremony and campus meeting at 7:00 a.m., where faculty and personnel will receive crucial updates and instructions vital for the implementation of flexible learning.

‎Following the faculty and staff session, a separate orientation will be conducted for all students from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the same venue. This session aims to provide students with proper guidance, clarification of procedures, and essential information related to flexible learning.

𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: Tropical Depression Ramil Accelerates; Northern Portions of Eastern Samar Under TCWS No. 1

Northern portions of Eastern Samar—including San Policarpo, Arteche, Oras, Dolores, Maslog, Jipapad, Taft, and Can-Avid—are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 as Tropical Depression Ramil maintains its strength while moving west-southwestward at 30 km/h. The system was last located 445 km east of Juban, Sorsogon.

According to Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 5, has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1002 hPa.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and to stay updated by regularly checking official bulletins and advisories from PAGASA.

The tremor, recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, registered Instrumental Intensity IV in several areas across Agusan del Norte, Southern Leyte, and Surigao del Norte, including Cabadbaran City, Hinundayan, Silago, and Surigao City.

PHIVOLCS said the quake was tectonic in origin and warned of possible aftershocks, though no tsunami alert has been issued.

The tremor, recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, registered Instrumental Intensity III in Dulag, Leyte; Intensity II in several areas across Leyte and Southern Leyte; and Intensity I in Burauen, Leyte, and Hinundayan, Southern Leyte.

According to PHIVOLCS, the quake was tectonic in origin. No damage or aftershocks are expected.
