Each day, he travels long hours from Sta. Maria to Meycauayan for up to three hours of travel time to complete his education degree. However, due to his commitment and proper management of time, especially during his travels, he has been able to turn his tiresome routine into a symbol of hard work and determination to make it through the day. Meet Jayward Dexter Maranan, a Teacher Education Program (TEP) student.

Notably, when asked why he opted for a university far from home, Jayward answered spiritedly. "Since dalawang beses ako bumagsak sa BSU sa entrance exam, napagpasiyahan ko na mag-apply sa PCCM kahit na taga Sta. Maria ako." After failing the entrance exams at Bulacan State University (BSU), Jayward opted to enroll at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM), even if it is farther from his house.

Jayward has a busy schedule; he wakes up early in the morning and goes to bed late at night. โ€œMay times na umuuwi ako ng bahay pagod na at pumapasok ako ng umaga na puyat,โ€œ he said, showing how tiring his schedule is. In order to save as many hours as possible, he came up with study reviewers to read during transport. "Ganun yung routine, bale ang naisip kong gawin na gumawa ng reviewer, then basahin sa biyahe," he added, before turning the time spent travelling into valuable study periods.

The issues that Jayward encounters are as follows: โ€Traffic then yung pagod," he said, speaking to the physical and mental exhaustion caused by his long hours on the road. Despite all these challenges, he remains focused towards the achievement of his aims and objectives. "Ang naiiisip ko nalang para makasabay is maging focus sa goal kasi hassle na masiyado eh kaya ayun dapat di ka papadala sa mga nangyayari,โ€œ he said, reinforcing the fact that no form of hardship should be used as a bar to his education.

The experience has gone a long way in changing his outlook on education and hard work. "Huwag isipin yung layo ng tatahakin mo kasi darating yung time na makakarating ka dun," Jayward continued, emphasizing the importance of embracing hardships and remaining focused on a path once chosen.

His interactions with classmates and teachers have also benefited from his commute. โ€œIsa sa mga bagay na nagdrive ng motivation ko is pumasok dahil para makita ko mga kaklase ko,โ€ Jayward said while explaining that friendly relations with his fellow students make him passionate to work. He also acknowledged the assistance of his teacher, Maโ€™am Angelica, in the process. "Iba yung impact niya sakin kasi every time na nagturo siya, enjoy ko kasi hindi siya basta teacher lang na tinawag para magturo kundi isa siyang teacher na nagturo at nagpapalakas ng loob ng mga student na nanghihina," he said, of which he had received much encouragement and hard work from her.

Jayward Dexter Marananโ€™s story is one of hard work, passion, and the determination to learn despite many adversities. The daily trip from Sta. Maria to Meycauayan means much more than just a daily commute; it is a representation of his dedication to his dreams and his desire to overcome any obstacle that comes in his way. His advice to fellow students in similar situations is clear: stay focused, remain determined, and never let the distance discourage you.

Balancing academic pursuits and work responsibilities is a challenge that many students face. Trisha Anne Bongato, a dedicated student from BSE English 3A, shared a story that is not just about managing time but about resilience, determination, and the pursuit of dreams amidst daily struggles.

Trisha Anne Bongato is a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Secondary Education, majoring in English, at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM). From a young age, Trisha displayed a passion for teaching, dreaming of one day inspiring young minds.

Her academic journey has been marked by hard work, perseverance, and a deep commitment to her chosen field.

Despite the demanding workload of her coursework, Trisha has consistently excelled in her studies. She always helps her classmates even when she has a lot to do. She is always willingto support others.

In addition to her academic responsibilities, Trisha works part-time at McDonald's, a job she took on to help support her education and reduce the financial burden on her family. Working at McDonald's requires her to manage late-night shifts and early morning classes, often leaving her with little time for rest.

Despite the physical and mental challenges, Trisha approaches her job with the same dedication she shows in her studies. Her role at McDonald's has taught her invaluable lessons in time management, customer service, and teamwork. These skills have not only helped her excel at work but have also benefited her academic life, where she manages deadlines and
group projects.

The life of a working student is indeed challenging. But if you have a dream, those challengesbecome part of a journey that makes your story beautiful and inspirational. "Mahirap mag-aral while working kasi mahahati yung time mo, pero isang importanteng aral na natutunan ko is magtapos ka kung gusto mo magtapos. Kahit sobrang hirap ng buhay, sa dulo magp-pay off din naman lahat ng hard work mo."

Trisha's story is one of passion, determination, and hope. She embodies the spirit of many working students who strive to achieve their dreams despite the odds. Her journey serves as apowerful reminder that with hard work, resilience, and a clear vision, nothing is impossible.

Do EDUC students at Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM) still want to teach younger children despite pursuing a Bachelor of Secondary Education? Absolutely, at Daycare Centers in Barangay Camalig and Malhacan, the worthwhile event day of the Student Academic Guild for English (SAGE) happened on November 28, 2023.

As the year 2023 comes to an end, the SAGE conducted a program to teach the younger generation, supported by the PCCM-Community Extension, the college dean, librarians, and college instructors. The program gave a path for children to be engaged with the beauty of literature; this literary service program was titled 'PROJECT BOOKLAT: Aklat para sa Paglinang at Pagtuklas' and held at daycare centers in Barangay Camalig and Malhacan on November 28, 2023.

The program featured a fun activity for young children titled 'The Boat is Sinking', with PCCM instructors and SAGE officers dressing up as different characters. A key highlight was the distribution of books to the children, encouraging their interest in literature. The children's enjoyment and happiness were evident from their smiles.

Despite their focus on secondary education, PCCMians demonstrated a strong aspiration to teach the younger generation. This commitment is proven by their involvement in diligence projects such as the SAGE project. "It was a pleasure to be part of their project from SAGE, as they all know I really love children," remarked Ms. Ednalyn Termulo, a SAGE officer. Her statement reflects a broader feeling among EDUC students at PCCM: while pursuing a Bachelor of Secondary Education, she still expresses a deep passion for engaging with and nurturing young children.

This dedication to teaching different age groups emphasizes their commitment to education and desire to make a meaningful impact. With the enthusiasm and joy they bring in embracing opportunities to work with younger students, PCCMians not only broaden their teaching experiences but also contribute positively to the educational journey of children, demonstrating that their passion for teaching exceeds the boundaries of secondary education.

Indeed, the life and weight of being a student-leader and, at the same time, an academic achiever fall never just skin deep. Here's Rhia Joyce O. Rulloda, a third-year college student and currently the College Student Government (CSG) President at Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM), who experienced it firsthand.

Rulloda has been a student leader during her days in basic education. Today, she is the president of the highest organization in PCCM. A consistent Deanโ€™s Lister since first year college, and recently at Rank 66 overall and Rank 1 among the 3rd year students from the Teacher Education Program (TEP).

When asked about what her routine is for balancing academic and leadership responsibilities, she said, "Actually, I do not have a certain routine. Aside from wise time management, there is also good energy management. Kapag nauubos na pahinga lang; kapag handa na, laban na ulit!" Truly, a rest is a must.

This set-up is never easy. It takes more than oneโ€™s dedication to continue. You have to dwell with eyes who watch your every move and your performance as a student and a leader. It's challenging, yet in her case, she found it fulfilling despite the roughness and restlessness it gives. Because for her, when you love what you do, you can conquer it and eventually find your way.

On an ending note, the learning she realized during her journey is that, โ€œSometimes we need to choose which must be prioritized, which we may sacrifice to do all the things that we are tasked with. Sakripisyo ay totoo. Ito ay bunga ng pagmamahal na puroโ€.

"It doesn't matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop; siguradong may pupuntahan lahat ng sakripisyo mo."

In life's challenges, some individuals exhibit resilience as they navigate unexpected twists and obstacles.

Meet Juvilyn Maceda, a third-year student in the Teacher Education Program (TEP) at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM), whose journey through surgery, work, and education represents tireless dedication and bravery.

Her journey began with a health obstacle that could stop her dreams. Diagnosed with Ovarian New Growth, a tumor growing in her o***y that needed immediate removal, Maceda faced a daunting 50/50 chance of having a malignant tumor. At the time, she was a third-year college student.

She never expected her health to cause problems with her dreams. "Dahil kailangan ako operahan, kinailangan kong huminto ng isang taon dahilan para mapagiwanan ako ng batch ko," Maceda stated. Reflecting on the sacrifices she had to make despite wanting to stay on track with her classmates. Due to her condition, she began frequenting doctor's appointments, causing her to miss classes. She did want to continue her education, but she had no choice; she needed surgery.

On March 21, 2023, she underwent surgery, and four days later, her doctor discharged her. For almost two months, she stayed at home, focusing on healing. "Bawal magbuhat ng kahit anong mabigat at hirap din ako kumilos kasi invasive 'yung surgery na ginawa sa akin. Sobrang laki ng tahi ko," she recalled, reflecting on her post-surgery experiences.

Her family faced a financial crisis due to her medical expenses, and three months after her surgery, she applied for a job as a billing and sales representative at VXI Global Company. Her parents' dream was for her to finish her education, as she only had one and a half years left to graduate, so she demonstrated determination and bravery by balancing work and studies.

Despite the challenges, PCCM welcomed her to continue her studies in her third year, second semester, supporting her in achieving the dreams she set out for herself a year ago.

Today, Maceda stands on the brink of completing her studies, a testament to her resilience and commitment to life. Even with the overwhelming challenges she encountered, she emerged braver, healthier, and more determined.

Having her own child did not affect her from her study. A student from Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM) continue to study hard for the future of her and her child. Despite the challenges of balancing motherhood and academics she remained steadfast in her commitment to academic.

In a world where challenges often dictate the course of our lives, there are still remarkable individuals who defy the odds with their determination and resilience in education.

Mistery Pascual a 22-year-old 3rd year English student of Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM), and at the same time, a mother.

The journey of being a student and a mother is a transformative experience demanding unparalleled commitment and sacrifices.

"Mahirap kase ano parang hati yung oras sa pag-aalaga. Kasi halimbawa may mga gagawin kang assignment tapos bigla siyang umiyak pero walang ibang mag-aalaga sa kanya kung hindi ikaw." Mistery said.

Embracing motherhood did not diminish her passion for education instead, it fueled her dedication to be successful, not just for herself but also for the child.

"Wala naman kasi talagang nagbago eh, parang ano lang, nag-focus lang ako lalo sa goal ko."

The role of a student should focus on the pursuit of knowledge and academic excellence, yet Gemma Ramos' journey encompasses far more than books and lectures. In a recent interview, Gemma shared the challenges she faced when she was a working student. "No'ng working ako, 'di ba hindi ako nakaka-attend ng online class. Kasi kailangan kong mag work from, I think, parang 8 am to 5 pm," she recalled.

Gemma managed her time meticulously, often sacrificing sleep to fulfill her academic responsibilities. Having a job as a secretary at a car insurance company during the day and at night as a singer from 7 pm to 3 am, Gemma's schedule left little room for rest or leisure. "Everything is limited. Parang may boundaries gano'n, ta's may mga things that you can't do. That you want to do, but you can't do," she described.

It was during her gig performances that Gemma met her husband, Moja, who would later become her source of support. Moja encouraged Gemma to prioritize her education, and she eventually decided to quit her job to focus on her studies, which led to their wedding in July 2023.

Contrary to societal expectations, Gemma found marriage to be a source of support rather than a burden, allowing her to focus on her studies. "Hindi ko naman na-f-feel na may asawa ako, kase hindi naman ako gumagawa lahat ng ano, household chores gano'n. Mas nakakapag focus ako sa pag-aaral, kase sinu-support niya ako financially tsaka ano, mino-motivate niya ako na mag-aral," Gemma shared.

Marriage, she emphasized, has enhanced her decision-making skills and instilled a sense of purpose in her academic goals. "Parang mas na-pursue ako na mag-aral, kasi nga syempre yung ibang tao sasabihin nila 'pag nag-asawa ka parang magre-rely ka lang palagi do' n sa husband mo. So ako, gusto ko na hindi nila masabi 'yon sa' kin. So kailangan kong i-prove sa sarili ko na kaya ko, na even without my husband may identity ako," Gemma explained.

Gemma's story is an epitome of resilience and determination, despite the demands of her dual role as a student and a wife, Gemma remained committed to her education. She challenged expectations and confidently pursued her academic aspirations with her husband's support, proving that marriage and academic goals can coexist harmoniously.

Baliwag City, April 22โ€“26, 2024: The Association of Local Colleges and Universities - Region III (ALCU-R3) Badminton Competition saw fierce competition from numerous local colleges, but sadly, the mixed doubles team of the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM) was placed in the elimination round. On behalf of PCCM, Andy Laluan and Mae Magbanua, guided by Mr. Joshua Alaba, were never ones to back down easily during the entire competition.

Laluan and Magbanuaโ€™s first assignment proved to be quite challenging when they played against Kolehiyo ng Subic (KNS). However, they were defeated by a margin of 35-19 in the match. Reflecting on the match, Mae noted, โ€œTo be honest, no'ng first game medyo na-down kami ni Andy since natalo kami kase nagkulang kami sa teamwork at medyo nervous din kase napaka crucial ng scores, so 'pag lamang kalaban kinakabahan kami. โ€

But their spirit and good teamwork can be seen in the second game against Limay Polytechnic College (LPC). They came back with a well-deserved 35-29 win and significantly better cooperation and planning strategies.

Interviews were conducted with participants, including Laluan, who was participating in his first regional tournament; he said he had inconsistent emotions and later took pride in their performance.

When trained, their training was quite basic and confined to their footwork and moves on how to cover the court. Magbanua emphasized the importance of communication and the strategic placement of shots.

The combination of the two was beneficial as they tried to cover for each other by utilizing each otherโ€™s strengths. Andy recognized this idea by saying, "I've never been so confident when it comes to competing in badminton, but when I'm playing with her, I feel like she can fulfill my weak points on the court."

In the future, both players are destined to work on the development of their skills. Magbanua intends to improve her skills for predicting her opponentsโ€™ moves, and Laluan wants to be more independent and dominant when he is playing badminton.

It may have ended without the championship to glory for the players at the ALCU-R3 Badminton Competition in Baliwag, but the lessons acquired and the bonding forged on their campaign are factors that would lead to a better showing in future tournaments.
