Each day, he travels long hours from Sta. Maria to Meycauayan for up to three hours of travel time to complete his education degree. However, due to his commitment and proper management of time, especially during his travels, he has been able to turn his tiresome routine into a symbol of hard work and determination to make it through the day. Meet Jayward Dexter Maranan, a Teacher Education Program (TEP) student.
Notably, when asked why he opted for a university far from home, Jayward answered spiritedly. "Since dalawang beses ako bumagsak sa BSU sa entrance exam, napagpasiyahan ko na mag-apply sa PCCM kahit na taga Sta. Maria ako." After failing the entrance exams at Bulacan State University (BSU), Jayward opted to enroll at the Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM), even if it is farther from his house.
Jayward has a busy schedule; he wakes up early in the morning and goes to bed late at night. โMay times na umuuwi ako ng bahay pagod na at pumapasok ako ng umaga na puyat,โ he said, showing how tiring his schedule is. In order to save as many hours as possible, he came up with study reviewers to read during transport. "Ganun yung routine, bale ang naisip kong gawin na gumawa ng reviewer, then basahin sa biyahe," he added, before turning the time spent travelling into valuable study periods.
The issues that Jayward encounters are as follows: โTraffic then yung pagod," he said, speaking to the physical and mental exhaustion caused by his long hours on the road. Despite all these challenges, he remains focused towards the achievement of his aims and objectives. "Ang naiiisip ko nalang para makasabay is maging focus sa goal kasi hassle na masiyado eh kaya ayun dapat di ka papadala sa mga nangyayari,โ he said, reinforcing the fact that no form of hardship should be used as a bar to his education.
The experience has gone a long way in changing his outlook on education and hard work. "Huwag isipin yung layo ng tatahakin mo kasi darating yung time na makakarating ka dun," Jayward continued, emphasizing the importance of embracing hardships and remaining focused on a path once chosen.
His interactions with classmates and teachers have also benefited from his commute. โIsa sa mga bagay na nagdrive ng motivation ko is pumasok dahil para makita ko mga kaklase ko,โ Jayward said while explaining that friendly relations with his fellow students make him passionate to work. He also acknowledged the assistance of his teacher, Maโam Angelica, in the process. "Iba yung impact niya sakin kasi every time na nagturo siya, enjoy ko kasi hindi siya basta teacher lang na tinawag para magturo kundi isa siyang teacher na nagturo at nagpapalakas ng loob ng mga student na nanghihina," he said, of which he had received much encouragement and hard work from her.
Jayward Dexter Marananโs story is one of hard work, passion, and the determination to learn despite many adversities. The daily trip from Sta. Maria to Meycauayan means much more than just a daily commute; it is a representation of his dedication to his dreams and his desire to overcome any obstacle that comes in his way. His advice to fellow students in similar situations is clear: stay focused, remain determined, and never let the distance discourage you.
