The Central Philippine State UniversityโMoises Padilla Campus (CPSU-MPC) proudly hosted this yearโs Araw ng Wika 2025 Celebration at the Municipal Auditorium with the theme โPaglinang ng Filipino at Katutubong Wika; Makasaysayan sa Pagbuo ng Bansa.โ The occasion highlighted the richness of the Filipino language and culture while bringing together students, educators, and local leaders in one meaningful celebration.
The event was graced by government officials of the municipality along with faculty, staff, and students from different institutions. Contestants and delegations came from Guinpanaan National High School Main, Guinpanaan National High SchoolโOdiong Extension, Mateo Liboon National High School, Antonio Montilla Esteban National High School, Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia National High School, and San Isidro Academy of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, Inc. Their presence added to the sense of unity and collective pride in honoring the Filipino language.
The program commenced with a solemn invocation performed by the CPSU-MPC Chorale. Followed by the Opening Salvo dance presentation by CPSU-MPC students. After the opening performances, Hon. Anna Marie B. Abibuag, the Municipal SK Federation President, delivered her welcoming remarks. In her message, she emphasized the importance of valuing the Filipino language as a symbol of identity and heritage while encouraging the youth to continue nurturing their appreciation for local culture and traditions.
The first competition of the day was the Sabayang Pagbigkas, where participating schools showcased their synchronized recitation, movements, and creativity. The performances reflected the studentsโ mastery of oratory and expression, highlighting the power of unity in delivering meaningful messages about the Filipino language and culture.
Following this was the highly anticipated Balagtasan Contest, which tested the studentsโ wit, eloquence, and poetic artistry. The participants engaged in heated yet respectful debates on relevant issues facing todayโs youth and society. The contest featured topics such as the role of social media, the relevance of recognizing heroes in the digital age, the value of intelligence versus talent, the importance of mental health, and the comparison between modern and traditional methods of teaching. Each performance was met with applause and appreciation from the crowd, as the young debaters displayed both intelligence and creativity.
While competitions took place inside the auditorium, another festive highlight unfolded outside with the staging of traditional Filipino games or Larong Lahi. Students from the various schools enthusiastically participated, bringing laughter and excitement to the celebration. The inclusion of these games added a nostalgic and fun-filled atmosphere that complemented the academic and literary competitions happening inside.
The last contest for the morning session was the Tagisan ng Talino, a quiz competition that challenged the participantsโ knowledge of the history and literature of the Filipino language. Representatives from each participating high school competed in this intellectual battle, demonstrating not only their learning but also their appreciation for the heritage of the national language. The quiz provided an engaging way to reinforce the significance of the Filipino language in the countryโs historical and cultural development.
The morning festivities concluded with a lunch break, marking the end of a half-day filled with learning, talent, and camaraderie. The activities showcased the skills and creativity of the students while also instilling in them a deeper sense of pride in being Filipino. More than just a series of competitions, the Araw ng Wika 2025 Celebration at CPSU-MPC served as a reminder of the vital role of language and culture in shaping the nationโs identity and unity.
