Quezon City, Philippines โ July 27, 2026 โ President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) before a joint session of Congress at the Batasang Pambansa, highlighting his administration's accomplishments and presenting its priorities for the remaining years of his term. The President's address centered on economic growth, public service reforms, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, national security, and the government's intensified campaign against corruption.
During his speech, President Marcos stressed that corruption continues to be one of the country's greatest challenges. He assured the public that his administration's would continue to hold accountable any public official involved in corrupt practices, regardless of position or political affiliation. He also reported positive economic developments, citing efforts to generate more employment opportunities, attract local and foreign investments, reduce inflation, strengthen the agricultural sector, improve transportation systems, and expand access to quality healthcare and education. In addition, he urged Congress to pass measures that would provide tax relief and improve the delivery of essential government services.
The President also highlighted programs aimed at improving the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), recognizing their vital contribution to the country's economy. He emphasized the government's commitment to providing better protection, faster and more accessible services, and stronger reintegration programs for returning OFWs and their families. Marcos likewise announced additional support for the education sector, including increased assistance and benefits for teachers, improved learning facilities, and continued investments to enhance the quality of education and the welfare of educators.
One of the major announcements in the President's address was the Pax Silica Hub. Marcos described the project as a strategic investment designed to transform the Philippines into a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor manufacturing, critical minerals, and other advanced technology industries. According to the President, the initiative is expected to create thousands of high-quality jobs, attract significant investments, and strengthen the county's position in the global technology supply chain.
President Marcos also reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to protecting its sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea through peaceful and lawful means while upholding the 2016 Arbitral Award. He emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness, food security, digital transformation, infrastructure modernization, environmental sustainability, and stronger public institutions to ensure long-term national development and resilience.
Concluding his address, President Marcos called on lawmakers, government agencies, the private sector, and every Filipino to work together in achieving a stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous Philippines. He emphasized that unity, integrity, accountability, and good governance remain essential in delivering meaningful progress and improving the quality of life for all Filipinos.
