LOOK | The San Beda College Alabang Model United Nations (SBCAMUN 2025) unfolded diplomatic, leadership, and dialogue into action as students from all over the Philippines and around the globe came together to replicate actual United Nations councils. The conference served as a venue for emerging leaders to share ideas, debate current global topics, and experience world diplomacy.
Delegates came from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Colegio de Muntinlupa, University of San Agustin, Thammasat University (Thailand), and San Beda College Alabang. The Bedan Chronicles also had an interview with exceptional delegates and journalists such as Jean Mari Alambro (Germany), Vineet Körner-Thakrar (United States), Arisa Pakboong (Malaysia), Tanapoth Chalermpan (France), Cyrus Aduana (Al Jazeera), and Megan Arellano (The Washington Post).
SBCAMUN 2025 took place at San Beda College Alabang with three different councils:
• Women Council at the CAS Multipurpose Hall
• Historical Crisis Council (HCC) at the Rosendo Herrera Hall
• Press Corps at the Law Library
The conference lasted for a number of days, covering the campus halls with debate, negotiation, and the vibrancy of international cooperation.
The conference sought to cultivate the future diplomats, leaders, and communicators through empathy, critical thinking, and awareness of global issues. It was meant to inspire students to discuss real-world issues—from gender equality and digital safety to crisis management and media integrity—within a formal diplomatic environment.
Every council had its own set of challenges and keypoints.
At the UN Women Council, there was debate on the confluence of technology and women's rights. On behalf of Germany, Jean Mari Alambro shared a message of empathy and forward march:
"Diplomacy begins in empathy. Technology should never be used as a tool for oppression—its purpose is to empower and connect, not divide."
Delegate of the United States Vineet Körner-Thakrar was awarded the Best Representation Award for his insightful reflections.
"Being a representation of the U.S. was about influence, but it was also about responsibility," he asserted. "MUN is not about winning an argument. It's about recognizing that change starts with how we decide to listen."
Arisa Pakboong, Best Delegate award winner from Thammasat University, echoed her joy and appreciation:
"Yes, absolutely! I had a wonderful time at SBCAMUN, I'd rate it 10/10. Here, everyone is so great and made me feel so welcome. I got to learn so much about cultural exchange—how different yet common our viewpoints can be."
Her co-delegate Tanapoth Chalermpan also mused on the richness of the experience:
"Definitely 100%. In addition to learning how to work at MUN, another experience that was highly beneficial to me was the great and friendly individuals I got to meet. It was a chance to learn so much from them, and one which I will remember for a very long time."
Meanwhile, in the Historical Crisis Council held at Rosendo Herrera Hall, delegates faced rapid-fire decision-making and historical reconstruction. Filippo Gonzales and Catharina Fajardo emerged as Most Outstanding Delegate and Best Delegate, respectively, showcasing quick thinking and adaptability.
The Press Corps in the Law Library covered each pivotal moment through stories, broadcasts, and news reports. Al Jazeera's Cyrus Aduana, Divine Evangelista, and Ram Escoto were awarded Best in Broadcast Journalism, while The Washington Post's Megan Arellano highlighted the essence of journalism:
"Our job was to share narratives that cause people to remember why diplomacy is important—not just in politics, but in human everydayness."
