MUNTINLUPA CITY, Philippines — Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) communication students displayed remarkable feat as CineBedista 2023 finalists 'Simpleng Pagtindig' and 'Pananaw' earned five awards in total during the Gabi ng Parangal at San Beda College Alabang on Mar. 23, thus strengthening the revival of film industry at the University.
During the awards night, 'Pananaw,' a documentary film directed by Bernadette Baldovino and Ervie Jay Torzar and produced by Diez Productions, won Best Screenplay, Best Teaser, and Best Poster in the Hiraya category.
Meanwhile, 'Simpleng Pagtindig,' a short documentary film directed by Irvin Salvador and produced by select fourth-year communication students, received awards for Best Teaser and Best Poster in the Sibol category.
'Pananaw' revolved around the stoic life of Tatay Tony, a blind man living alone in the outskirts of Mauban, Quezon. Aside from their recognition, Baldovino said that they are happy to serve as an instrument for the world to know about Tatay Tony's inspirational story.
On the other hand, 'Simpleng Pagtindig' unveiled the untold story of how volunteers for youth education in Lucena City struggled due to the effects of the pandemic on children's education. It also highlighted the extraordinary efforts of the volunteers in keeping the educational hub alive.
"For us, the revival of the film industry in the University is a significant opportunity, especially in this generation, as it provides us with various opportunities to narrate the life and culture of Filipinos and to bring it to the Envergan community," Baldovino mentioned as she expressed pride in their film.
The College of Arts and Sciences was known for their innovative initiatives in film production, and the new generation of comm students aims to fully revive the film industry at the University after the success of the first Lente film exhibit in November 2023.
