A year ago we moved from a condo to a house. Best decision ever but it came with a trade-off.
No more gym on the ground floor. The nearest one is atleast 5km out, and tbh, that extra drive could be another excuse to skip.
So we set one up at home.
One year in, here’s what nobody tells you about having a home gym:
You can go as you are. Coffee in hand, still half-asleep, straight to the weights. No mirror check. No “do I look decent enough to run into someone” anxiety. Just you and the bar.
You train how you actually want to. My fave are barefoot squats. Something commercial gyms won’t usually allow. (Understandably)
You own the environment. We built ours facing the garden. It has sliding doors that open to the TV room. Lifting while watching UFC hits completely different. The layout, the flow, the playlist: you get to call the shots.
No audience. No judgment. Group workouts with family hit different when it’s private. You can fail, laugh, make it a game. Less gym, more adult playground.
The hardest part of working out is showing up. We fixed that.
No excuses.
