The Research and Extension Publication Office (REPO) of Mindanao State University at Naawan successfully held its second JEAR Publication Writing Boot Camp, titled โEquipping Staff and Faculty for Research Dissemination: Cohort 2,โ last June 23 to 25, 2025. The three-day program began virtually via Zoom and continued in-person at the MSUN Research Function Room.
The boot camp opened with inspiring messages from Associate Professor Gergie A. Ambato, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Ruby C. Gonzales, Director of the Technical and Support Services Center. This edition featured international experts, including Dr. Alison Kim Shan Wee of the University of Nottingham Malaysia, who guided participants on clear and persuasive research communication, and Dr. Mohammad Baysuni of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, who shared strategies for crafting insightful review articles.
On the second day, Balik Scientist Dr. Benjoe Rey B. Visayas highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence in supporting academic writing and research productivity, emphasizing responsible and ethical use. Dr. Nonillon M. Aspe, Dean of the College of Environment and Life Sciences, provided practical guidance on navigating peer review, responding to reviewer comments, and ensuring manuscripts meet high-impact journal standards.
A core feature of the boot camp was its outcome-driven approach, requiring participants to actively develop manuscripts for submission to the Journal of Environment and Aquatic Resources (JEAR). Participants wrote, revised, and refined their papers throughout the program and presented draft manuscripts and progress updates, receiving constructive feedback that fostered collaboration and enhanced manuscript quality.
This successful initiative reflects MSU Naawanโs commitment to fostering research excellence and advancing scholarly capacity among faculty and staff. Through the dedicated efforts of REPO, JEAR continues to serve as a vital platform for disseminating high-quality scientific knowledge while nurturing and empowering local researchers. By providing support, training, and publication opportunities, the journal strengthens the universityโs role in contributing meaningful, impactful research to national and global scientific communities, ultimately driving innovation and sustainable development.
