Pride Month is not only a celebration but also a call to foster understanding, compassion, and respect for one another. It encourages us to create spaces where people feel safe to express themselves and where differences are celebrated rather than judged.

Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences hosted an echo seminar-workshop on May 20, 2026 that focuses on advancing local knowledge in marine biology at the MSUN Fisheries Science Building Room 102.

The day-long event, had their theme "Current Perspectives in Meiofaunal Taxonomy and Ecology: Lessons from Meioscool 2025," it is served to bridge modern research innovations with academic development in aquatic sciences.

Assistant Professor IV Erwin Jones Aldrin Tucong, the chairperson of the Department of Marine Science at MSU-Naawan, served as the resource speaker. Tucong, a specialist in aquatic microbial ecology, marine biodiversity, and eDNA metabarcoding, shared insights derived from the Meioscool 2025 program. An alumnus who earned both his BSc. and MSc. in Marine Biology from the university, Tucong has led multiple DOST-PCAARRD funded studies targeting coastal biodiversity, seagrasses, and mangroves.

The seminar opened with a morning session, opening remarks from Kezia Esther T. Abal, MSc., followed by an in-depth lecture by Tucong covering taxonomy and ecological structures.

The afternoon session shifted toward practical application with a hands-on workshop session facilitated by Tucong, designed to equip participants with future-ready scientific skills.
The event concluded with an awarding of certificates led by Abal and Aljunry G. Masong, alongside an intermission performance by Nove Love E. Sacil, before Masong delivered the closing remarks.

The seminar-workshop aligns with MSU-Naawan's ongoing strategic vision to position the institution as a dynamic hub for sustainable development, interdisciplinary research, and globally competitive education in allied aquatic sciences.

In line with the University’s efforts to strengthen campus security and improve entry and exit monitoring, the RFID Turnstile Access System shall be fully implemented in all campus gates of Mindanao State University at Naawan 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

All students, faculty members, staff, and other University personnel are hereby required to tap their official RFID-enabled IDs upon entry to and exit from the campus. Those with unregistered, inactive, defective, or undetected IDs are advised to immediately proceed to the Information and Communications Technology Center (ICTC) for verification, registration, or activation.

Visitors and other persons without official University RFID-enabled IDs shall remain subject to existing campus entry protocols and security procedures.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐌𝐒𝐔 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫-𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Fourth-year BS Fisheries students from Block A of Mindanao State University at Naawan conducted a seminar-extension activity titled “Empowering Women in the Community: A Seminar-Extension Activity on Bottled Alamang Production” on May 12, 2026, at the university’s Audio-Visual Room and Mini Fish Processing Plant.

The activity was organized in partnership with the Femme Power Association of Poblacion, Manticao, Misamis Oriental, with the goal of promoting livelihood opportunities and enhancing community skills in bottled alamang production.

The program formally opened with welcome remarks from Ms. Kezia Esther T. Abal, MSc, FSH196-A Instructor. This was followed by a series of informative lectures focused on food processing, safety, and product marketing.

Ms. Necelle Jhane Estillore discussed Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in bottled alamang production, emphasizing the importance of proper handling and sanitation in maintaining product quality and shelf life.

The lecture on food packaging, labeling, and marketing featured three speakers: Ms. Rica V. Lumangca, who discussed optional label information; Mr. John Leo T. Salva, who explained mandatory labeling requirements; and Mr. John Eric C. Bulaan, who tackled label design, packaging strategies, and product marketing. Ms. Liberty Taneo, MSc, concluded the lecture series with a discussion on ingredients, processing methods, and product costing.

During the afternoon session, participants engaged in hands-on workshops on bottled alamang production and product labeling. Some students facilitated the labeling workshop, while others assisted in the production process at the Mini Fish Processing Plant.

Ms. Lorecris Siadan led the demonstration on bottled alamang production, guiding participants through the complete process—from raw alamang preparation to the final bottled product.

A same-day edit video highlighting the preparations and activities of the seminar-extension program was also presented before the event concluded.

To formally close the activity, Ms. Honielyn M. Taka, MSc, FSH144-A Instructor, delivered the closing remarks and expressed appreciation to the organizers, facilitators, and participants for contributing to the success of the program.
