Fourth-year BS Fisheries students from Block A of Mindanao State University at Naawan conducted a seminar-extension activity titled โEmpowering Women in the Community: A Seminar-Extension Activity on Bottled Alamang Productionโ on May 12, 2026, at the universityโs Audio-Visual Room and Mini Fish Processing Plant.
The activity was organized in partnership with the Femme Power Association of Poblacion, Manticao, Misamis Oriental, with the goal of promoting livelihood opportunities and enhancing community skills in bottled alamang production.
The program formally opened with welcome remarks from Ms. Kezia Esther T. Abal, MSc, FSH196-A Instructor. This was followed by a series of informative lectures focused on food processing, safety, and product marketing.
Ms. Necelle Jhane Estillore discussed Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in bottled alamang production, emphasizing the importance of proper handling and sanitation in maintaining product quality and shelf life.
The lecture on food packaging, labeling, and marketing featured three speakers: Ms. Rica V. Lumangca, who discussed optional label information; Mr. John Leo T. Salva, who explained mandatory labeling requirements; and Mr. John Eric C. Bulaan, who tackled label design, packaging strategies, and product marketing. Ms. Liberty Taneo, MSc, concluded the lecture series with a discussion on ingredients, processing methods, and product costing.
During the afternoon session, participants engaged in hands-on workshops on bottled alamang production and product labeling. Some students facilitated the labeling workshop, while others assisted in the production process at the Mini Fish Processing Plant.
Ms. Lorecris Siadan led the demonstration on bottled alamang production, guiding participants through the complete processโfrom raw alamang preparation to the final bottled product.
A same-day edit video highlighting the preparations and activities of the seminar-extension program was also presented before the event concluded.
To formally close the activity, Ms. Honielyn M. Taka, MSc, FSH144-A Instructor, delivered the closing remarks and expressed appreciation to the organizers, facilitators, and participants for contributing to the success of the program.
