Today, the 20th of October, marks one year after Typhoon Kristine wreaked havoc in the Philippines with devastating rains and winds, bringing widespread flooding across various areas.

Kristine was forecast to have 100-200mm of rainfall, but unexpectedly dropped 528.5mm of rain, marking the highest rainfall in 24 hours since the 1920s.

The Bicol region was located on the rainbands of the storm, but was submerged in extreme floods, affecting people, infrastructure, and livelihood. It affected the lives of 9 million people, displacing around 700,000 individuals, injuring 151, and claiming 179 lives, with 23 missing. Typhoon Kristine's onslaught destroyed P6.20B worth of goods in agriculture alone, and billions more in livelihood and infrastructure.

One year after the typhoon made landfall in the Philippines, the memories of the tragedy still linger in everyone's minds. In commemoration of the lives that were affected that day, let us join together in peace. Let us pray for the souls of those who lost their lives, and for the people who are still looking for ways to rebuild theirs.

May the wreckage of Kristine remind the government that proper preparations are not an option, but a responsibility. When we invest in the safety of the people, we do not just prevent destruction; we spare lives, preserve communities, and safeguard the future of the nation.

A year has passed, but we will never forget.

Pastor, as he will now be the new moderator of The Vincentian and The Young Vincentian, the official student publications of the Basic Education Department of Universidad de Santa Isabel de Naga, Inc.

We express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to our former Technical Adviser and Moderator as he reaches another milestone in his teaching journey. The lessons he shared, the advice he gave, and the passion he poured will forever be engraved in our hearts.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | 𝗨𝗦𝗜 𝗡𝗦𝗧𝗣-𝗖𝗪𝗧𝗦 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: 𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸

To foster a drug-free community, LIGHT 2025: Drug Preclusion Talk was spearheaded by the USI Central Student Government (CSG) attended by students from the National Service Training Program-Civic Welfare Training Service (NSTP-CWTS).

Held on October 12 at the Frassati Gymnasium, the seminar opened with Mr. Marlon Joseph C. Bernal, RPm, Supervising Health Program Officer of DOH-Camarines Sur Treatment & Rehabilitation Center, who discussed the Effects of Psychoactive Substances to individuals and presented the used types of illegal substances.

Mr. Santaner T. Iray, Chief Trainer at Drug Check Philippines, the second resource speaker, talked about substance use awareness and prevention. His session featured a video presentation and photos of well-known individuals whose lives were negatively affected by drug use.

Ending the seminars was an informative discussion about earthquake and fire drill, discussed by Dr. Glenda Icaro, RN, LPT. With the recent calamities happening nationwide, she emphasized how earthquakes occur, its types, and the do's and dont's during such emergencies.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | INCANTARE, ipinamalas ng TSL; nag-iwan ng kataga sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan

Inihandog ng Teatro de Sta. Luisa (TSL) ang INCANTARE: Sa Mundo ng mga Engkanto, isang dulang pantanghalan, noong Oktubre 10-11 sa USI Auditorium.

Ito ay naglalayong magbigay ng kamalayan tungkol sa kalikasan at kasalukuyang kalagayan nito. Ang INCANTARE ay dinaluhan ng mga manonood mula sa Universidad de Sta. Isabel de Naga, Inc. at iba’t ibang paaralan sa Naga City.

Isinagawa ng TSL ang tatlong pagtatanghal bawat araw sa kabuoang tagal ng kanilang

Mula sa mga dayalogo ng mga karakter, nag-iwan ang dula ng mga katagang umantig sa damdamin ng mga manonood ukol sa kapayapaan at pagkakaisa. Isa sa mga tumatak na linya ay, “Walang tunay na kapayapaan sa mundo ng karahasan.”

Bukod sa mga dayalogo, tampok din ang mga orihinal na awitin na inawit ng mga miyembro. Sa huli, ipinakita ang pagpapatawad ng kalikasan sa mga tao, na binigyang diin sa linyang, “Walang pag-ibig kung walang pagpapatawad.”

Minarkahan ng huling awitin ang pagtatapos ng INCANTARE na nag-iiwan ng katagang, “Bumalik tayo sa ating mundo.”

Sa huli, nagkaroon ng pagkakataon ang mga manonood na magbahagi ng saloobin sa naganap na dula. Isa na rito ay mula kay Nadine Correo, miyembro ng Ministry of the Environment sa USI Central Student Government (CSG), na nagbukas ng Laudato Si’ na proyekto sa buong Higher Education Department (HED). (dapat Ata namention yung sinabi niya)

Ang INCANTARE ay isang kwento mula sa mundo ng mga engkanto, kung saan nahulog ang reyna ng kalikasan sa isang tao—na naging sanhi ng iba’t ibang suliranin sa kalikasan.

𝗨𝗦𝗜 𝗖𝗛𝗦 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗦𝗘 ‘𝟮𝟱

As part of the Bicol Medical Center (BMC) Week celebration, the Universidad de Sta. Isabel de Naga, Inc. (USI) College of Nursing spearheaded the Clinical Skills Enhancement (CSE) 2025 on October 9 at Royale Emelina.

Hundreds of Clinical Instructors (CIs) and Nursing Staff from BMC participated in the event, which carried the theme “Palihan-Linang,” symbolizing the spirit of learning and collaboration.

The program commenced with an opening salvo, where USI Clinical Instructors showcased cultural festival dances such as Panagbenga, Dinagyang, Voyadores, Kadayawan, and Sinulog, representing the vibrant traditions of different regions in the Philippines.

Featuring a series of plenary sessions, the event tackled topics on Community Health Nursing and Innovative Teaching Strategies, followed by interactive workshops where participants presented group outputs and discussed assigned case studies.

In closing, the organizers expressed gratitude for the unwavering commitment of all attendees to continuous professional growth.

The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm for nursing education and practice, reflecting USI’s mission to promote excellence, compassion, and innovation in healthcare service.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | The curtains open on day 1 of Teatro de Sta. Luisa’s musical play, ‘Incantare: Sa Mundo ng mga Engkanto’ at the USI Auditorium, in its three-set show, today, October 10.

In the magical world of Incantare, the auditorium was filled with music, dance, and storytelling, unveiling the greatest ill of the environment—negligence and abuse on it.

Written and directed by Mr. Alcid Valencia and Musical Director Rammel Costudio C. Alano, Incantare reminds the audience of their shared responsibility to the Earth: to love and protect the common home of everyone.

At the first day of the musical play, the TSL members showed its talents and creativity to students from across different schools.

Day 2 of the musical play will continue today, October 11.
