The acting Prime Minister of Thailand, Phumtham Wechayachai, warned on Friday, July 25, that border tensions with Cambodia could “develop into war” as 138,000 people evacuated the border regions of the country.

Subsequently, eight (8) districts in the country’s frontier were declared under martial law by a Thai military border commander.

Meanwhile, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on Monday, July 14, that conscription laws will be implemented next year to strengthen the country’s military power. Additionally, he called for an increase in the military budget.

Tensions between the countries have escalated after an armed conflict on May 28, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in one of the disputed areas.

Journalists are often first on the scene and last to leave, asking difficult questions and standing firm in the face of pressure. They report from disaster zones, courtrooms, and conflict areas. They pursue stories others would rather leave untouched. Their commitment to truth is not without cost. Many endure harassment, surveillance, and threats in the course of doing their jobs.

In recent years, the attacks on press freedom have become more deliberate and more concerning. Beyond online hate and smear campaigns, there have been coordinated efforts to discredit, intimidate, and even criminalize members of the press. When journalists are red-tagged or taken to court for doing their jobs, it signals a dangerous erosion of the rights we all depend on. These are not isolated incidents.

They are parts of a broader pattern that threatens the very foundation of democratic accountability. They are more than reporters of events. They are public servants who document truth, uncover injustice, and give voice to those often left unheard.

May we go beyond celebration and take a firm stance in defense of a free and independent press. To support journalists is to stand up for truth, transparency, and justice. Press freedom is not a privilege for the few. It is a right that protects us all.

The Supreme Court (SC) declared that there will be no impeachment proceedings for Vice President Sara Duterte via unanimous decision today, July 25.

The SC has ruled that the fourth complaint on Duterte's impeachment was unconstitutional due to the one-year rule under Article XI Section 3 paragraph 5 of the Constitution, and failed to uphold due process deeming it procedurally flawed.

"The Court said it is not absolving Vice President Duterte from any of the charges against her," court spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting announced in a press briefing.

The House of Representatives can file a motion for reconsideration. Any subsequent impeachment complaint may be filed starting February 6, 2026, Ting added.

𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬 | 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗿ö𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘁

inside the box is not a cat,
it does not pretend to be something it's not
people ask whether it's a “who” or a “what”
it’s weird how no one wants to answer that

is it dead? is it alive?
man! What makes it thrive?
well, if it’s five years older than five…
then lock the box–that’s the toy car it's going to drive

maybe paint it red for danger, warn people: it bites!
seal it with a yellow tape for caution, like some kind of rite
then watch as it crashes, because 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 serves it right!
and never once think that the dark box just needs a little light

inside the box is not a cat, not an “it”, not a “what”
they are victims with spears who somehow got caught
pawns in the middle of a game where rules are never taught
Why cage them in a box when they could hardly form a rational thought?

𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 | 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗡𝗼 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱!

‎Pets are not just companions who keep us company, but rather our best friends and family. In times of danger or calamity, let’s always keep our pets safe because they deserve the same love and safety as everyone we hold dear.

‎First, always ensure that your pets are not chained or trapped in small enclosures during emergencies as this can cause them harm. Second, have a list of emergency hotlines in case you find the need to evacuate your home with your family and pets. Lastly, always prepare emergency supplies and first aid kits that can help your family and pets in case of injury.

On Tuesday, July 22, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, D.C. to bolster bilateral cooperation on security, trade, and immigration.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) emphasized that the visit aimed to reinforce the longstanding alliance between the two countries, encourage proactive engagement, and explore greater opportunities for security and economic collaboration.

The trade negotiations in the meeting revealed that the 20% tariffs expected to be levied onto US products were lowered to only 19%. This was further confirmed by Trump's post on Truth Social.

Manila has imposed zero tariffs to imported US products making their way into the Philippines. This means that the US will not be paying tariffs to imports from the Philippines.

The 19% tariff still represents an increase from the 17% announced in April 2025. It marks the fifth trade agreement between the two nations in the past three months.

Marcos is the first ASEAN leader to visit Trump during his second term.
