The Ladby ship, uncovered on Funen island in Denmark, is the only known Viking ship burial in the country.
Dating to around 925 CE, the 22-meter-long vessel was the tomb of a Viking ruler buried alongside 11 horses and 4 dogs, likely sacrificed for the afterlife. Though the wooden ship itself has mostly decayed, its shape remains visible in the soil, along with grave goods and animal skeletons.
The burial site is preserved in situ as part of a museum, allowing visitors to view the original context of this royal grave. The Ladby ship highlights the wealth, ritual beliefs, and funerary customs of Viking elites in Denmark.
