Five speakers from diverse backgrounds shared their experiences and knowledge to inspire the CE students about the opportunities in civil engineering in this yearโs RCESS seminar.
Engr. Kristel Dianne Compomanes introduced the roles and responsibilities, the good qualities, and the salary range of a Quantity Surveyor. She comprehensively explained that the duties of a Quantity Surveyor are not limited to the costs and budget of the project but also involve the other aspects that affect them like contract administration and disputes.
โPlease continue to be inspired. Please remember that your journey is a continuous process of growth and development,โ Engr. Compomanes said before she ended her talk.
Engr. Johanna Marie R. Trespeces talked about Project Cost Management in Engineering and the different techniques usually used.
Engr. Angelica Anne Munar presented the world of a civil engineer where she also shared her experiences as a research adviser and an engineer in the industry.
"Once you start leading by example, they will follow you," Engr. Munar said when she explained the reality of being a woman in civil engineering and encouraged the CE students to get to know their co-workers once they started working as civil engineers.
The event was also graced by keynote speakers, namely, Engr. Herlyn Lanzuela-Delos Santos, the current president of the PICE Camarines Sur Chapter, and Engr. Maxell Pasia Lumbera, a research mentor and instructor at UP Diliman.
Overall, the seminar covered both technical aspects of civil engineeringโsuch as project cost management techniquesโand addressed the broader aspects of the profession, including the roles of women in the field. The emphasis on continuous growth, development, and building positive professional relationships suggests a holistic approach to preparing students for their future careers in civil engineering.
