๐ซ REMINDER: WE DO NOT TAKE IN PETS FOR SURRENDER ๐ซ
Think before you get a pet. Itโs a lifelong responsibility, not a temporary arrangement.
We get a lot of messages and these are just some of the common rea*ons people give up pets:
๐ Pet is sick
๐ No budget for pet needs
๐ No time due to work
๐ Puppy grew and thereโs no space
๐ Pet is now a senior
๐ Aggressive behavior
๐ Pets have multiplied and there are too many
๐ Moving homes
๐ Moving abroad
๐ Household member has allergies.
๐ Partner donโt like pets
๐ New baby in the household
โ
What to consider before getting a pet:
- Plan for medical expenses and care โ pets do get sick.
- Add your petโs needs to your financial budget.
- If youโre working, consider if other household members can share pet care.
- Itโs common sense that puppies grow and will take up more space.
- Senior pets will need more attention and care. Be prepared for this before bringing one home.
- Aggressive behavior can often be managed with proper training or professional help.
- Spay/neuter to avoid unplanned litters.
- Make sure rental homes allow pets.
- If you must relocate internationally, arrange trusted friends or relatives to care for your pet in advance.
- Discuss pet care, health issues, preferences, with all household members before getting a pet.
- If you are entering into a relationship with a partner who does not like pets, and can't work this out together, find trusted friends or relatives who can take in your pet โ or better yet, find a partner who likes pets ๐.
- If you are planning to have a baby, consider how pet care will fit with your new responsibilities.
Donโt abandon or dump your pet at a shelter.
๐ A pet is your responsibility for life, so plan wisely!
