๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ | Promoting Food Safety Knowledge and Practices among Women Beneficiaries of Abeloved SLP Association
Batangas State University, The National Engineering University ARASOF-Nasugbu, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IV-A and Abeloved SLP Association, successfully conducted a โTraining Workshop on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure (SSOP)โ for the members and beneficiaries of the Abeloved SLP Association, composed mostly of women and mothers from Brgy. Abelo, San Nicolas, Batangas.
The training workshop was conducted under the extension program of BatStateU ARASOF-Nasugbu, FoodTech Hub: Empowering Innovation through Livelihood Training and Development, specifically under Project 3 โ TECHSUPPORT: Expert Solution, Smarter Innovations. The activity aimed to provide technical knowledge and practical skills in food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling practices to support beneficiariesโ livelihood initiatives and promote the production of safe, high-quality food products within the community.
The program was spearheaded by Mr. Ronie G. Baclas, PFT Program Chairperson of BS Food Technology, who served as the Project Leader and facilitator of the activity, together with Mr. Albert V. Arcos, RFT, Program Chairperson of BS Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, who served as the training facilitator.
The first session was conducted by Mr. Noriel C. Soriano, PFT, who discussed Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). During his lecture, he emphasized the importance of GMP in ensuring the safety and quality of food products through proper handling, processing, storage, and distribution. He explained that GMP serves as a foundation in preventing contamination and maintaining cleanliness within food production areas. The participants learned about proper personal hygiene, workplace sanitation, equipment maintenance, and safe food preparation procedures. The discussion highlighted how adherence to GMP standards contributes to the production of safe, high-quality, and marketable food products.
The second session was facilitated by Ms. Raquel Joy Caser, RCh, who discussed the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure (SSOP). She explained the significance of SSOP in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in food establishments and processing areas. The participants were introduced to proper cleaning and sanitization procedures, waste management, prevention of cross-contamination, and the importance of regularly monitoring and documenting sanitation practices. The discussion also stressed that implementing SSOP helps minimize food safety hazards and supports compliance with food safety standards and regulations.
Throughout the workshop, participants actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences and concerns related to food preparation and livelihood activities. The interactive sessions allowed the beneficiaries to better understand the practical application of GMP and SSOP in their daily activities and future livelihood opportunities.
The training workshop became a meaningful extension activity that strengthened the partnership among Batangas State University ARASOF-Nasugbu, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IV-A, and the Abeloved SLP Association. More importantly, it empowered the women beneficiaries by providing them with valuable knowledge and skills that can contribute to safer food production practices, improved livelihood opportunities, and community development.
The success of the activity reflected the university's and its partners' commitment to promoting community empowerment through education, technical assistance, and sustainable livelihood development programs.
