Biliran became an independent province on May 11, 1992, through Republic Act No. 7160 (the Local Government Code), elevating it from a sub-province of Leyte. As of May 2026, the province is celebrating its 34th Provincehood Anniversary, highlighting its growth in agriculture and tourism.
