Theresians Paint for the Planet at “More Than The Maya 2025”
“Para sa kalikasan!”
— Miss Bing Famosa
Our planet is home to countless extraordinary species, including magnificent birds that each have a story to tell.
On August 7, ten (10) Junior High School student leaders from St. Therese of the Child Jesus Academy, Inc., accompanied by Mr. Alvin V. Dela Cruz, Student Activity Coordinator, were invited to attend the inspiring “More Than The Maya 2025” art workshop and exhibit at Fishermall, Quezon Avenue.
Miss Bing Famosa, founder of the Philippine Fauna Art Society and the Philippine Botanical Art Society, captivated the audience with her heartfelt opening remarks. She reminded everyone that the art of life goes far deeper than what the eye can see. Through her message, participants discovered not only the beauty of these species but also the challenges they face—habitat loss, endangerment, and the threat of extinction.
The breathtaking exhibit featured artworks that celebrated life, told stories, and captured the intricate details and wonder of nature. This inspired the students to express their own care for the environment through art, particularly painting.
Following the exhibit, the workshop—led by Miss Kathleen Baraan—encouraged participants to paint birds as their main subject. She generously shared tips, step-by-step guidance, and watercolor basics. Special thanks go to Art Manila for providing high-quality materials and student discounts, making the creative experience even more memorable.
At the end of the event, recognition was given to outstanding student artists. Two Theresians, Nicolette Summer D. Piosca and Francheska C. Novo, proudly received the Most Creative Artist award for their inspired and skillful works.
The event concluded with celebration and gratitude—students went home not only with their artworks but also with a renewed commitment to care for the environment. Truly, art as an advocacy is a powerful way to preserve what remains of our natural heritage, and young voices can speak volumes through creative expression.
