Following the lifting of Executive Order No. 10 by the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental, Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, Inc. (COSCA) resumes regular work and in-person classes starting Monday, July 21, 2025.

COSCA President Rev. Fr. Nathaniel B. Gomez, PhD directed the full return of all students, faculty, and staff to on-campus duties. The administration reminds everyone to uphold safety, discipline, and preparedness in all school activities.

𝙇𝙤𝙤𝙠| COSCA suspends in-person classes and work

In light of severe flooding brought on by the southwest monsoon and Tropical Depression “Crising,” Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, Inc. (COSCA) has suspended all face-to-face classes and on-site work.

The suspension was formally ordered by COSCA President Rev. Fr. Nathaniel B. Gomez, PhD, in alignment with Executive Order No. 10 issued by Negros Oriental Governor Manuel L. Sagarbarria, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the Catalinan family.

𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, including online and modular instruction, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 until further notice.

Mati City, Davao Oriental - June 28, 2025

With unwavering resolve and a heart anchored in faith, 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗕. 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, a proud member of the 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, claimed the title of 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 in the Standard Distance Category of the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗧𝗿𝗶 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗼𝗻 held at Menzi Beach Park, Mati City.

The event featured a grueling Olympic-standard course: a 1.5 km open-water swim, 40 km cycling, and a 10 km run—testing both mental and physical endurance. Arances not only completed the course but delivered the 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐭 of the day, a testament to his conditioning and competitive spirit.

Prior to his main event victory, he also placed 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫-𝐔𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐑𝐮𝐧 Category, showcasing resilience across both terrain and tide.

Now on its third annual staging, Tri Davor has become a premier sporting event in Davao Oriental, drawing elite and grassroots athletes to compete amid the natural beauty of Dahican Beach.

Edgie Arances’ victory stood out not just as a personal milestone but also as a reflection of the discipline, humility, and spiritual grounding that define a true Red Cardinal warrior.

𝙇𝙊𝙊𝙆| 538 graduates honored at COSCA's 66th Commencement Exercises

The 66th Commencement Exercises of Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria took place on May 14, 2025, at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center, celebrating a significant milestone for a total of 538 graduates across the College of Liberal Arts-Education, College of Business Education, College of Criminal Justice Education, and College of Allied Health Sciences.

The ceremonies commenced at 12:30 PM with the Processional March — symbolically marked by the trail of graduates behind the scholastic candle. Following the processional, a Baccalaureate Mass was held at 1:00 PM. The Most Reverend Rev. Julito B. Cortes, DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete, served as the main celebrant. He was joined by Rev. Fr. John Reniel Quiliope, the Diocesan Catholic Schools Superintendent, Fr. Nathaniel B. Gomez, PhD, the COSCA President, Rev. Fr. John Nguyen Thanh Vinh, the School Chaplain, and invited members of the clergy.

The Graduation Rites began at 3:00 PM, the central event where the 538 graduates were officially awarded their degrees, indicating the successful completion of their studies at COSCA. The Commencement Exercises were honored by the presence of the Honorable Noel Marjon E. Yasi, Psy.D., the President of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), who served as the Graduation Speaker.

The memorable day concluded around 6:00 PM, just after the graduates shared in the sentiment of their chosen Graduation Song, "Long Live" by Taylor Swift.

For two decades, Mr. Lennie U. Martinez has been the heart and soul of sports development at Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, Inc. (COSCA). As the institution’s Sports Development Officer since 2004, his leadership has transformed COSCA into a powerhouse of athletic excellence, producing top-tier student-athletes who have made their mark in regional and national arenas.

One of Martinez’s most significant milestones came in School Year 2023-2024 with the formation of the Negros Island Region PRISAA (NIR PRISAA). Initially, only COSCA and Foundation University (FU) represented Negros Oriental in the league. However, with Silliman University (SU) joining the fray, the region’s presence in high-level competitions has grown stronger.

His passion and strategic vision for sports development have earned him the Presidency of Negros Oriental PRISAA, a crucial role that allows him to shape the future of athletics in the province. He has been instrumental in fostering stronger athletic programs, working alongside esteemed officials:

Yet, challenges loom over the future of NIR PRISAA, as deep-seated differences cast a shadow over its stability, putting its very existence at risk. Despite this uncertainty, Martinez remains steadfast in his mission, ensuring that private universities and colleges in Negros Oriental continue to thrive in sports development. His unwavering commitment has built a strong foundation for young athletes, giving them the opportunity to compete, succeed, and bring pride to their schools and province.

Under his leadership, COSCA has transcended mere recognition in sports - it has become a dominant force, shaping champions and commanding respect on every stage. Lennie U. Martinez’s unwavering dedication is not just shaping athletes - it is cementing COSCA’s legacy in the world of sports, one triumph at a time.

𝙇𝙊𝙊𝙆| COSCA HAULS MEDALS AT NIR PRISAA 2025

BACOLOD CITY – Overcoming challenges, the Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, Inc. (COSCA) delegation known as the COSCA Cardinals delivered an exceptional performance at the 2nd Negros Island Region (NIR) PRISAA Games, which concluded on March 14, 2025. Despite being one of only three schools representing Negros Oriental, COSCA athletes excelled, securing a remarkable medal haul and demonstrating resilience, skill, and determination.

GOLDEN STRIKE IN 3X3 BASKETBALL
One of the most celebrated victories came in the 3x3 Basketball tournament, where the Negros Oriental squad clinched the gold medal. The winning team was composed of:
Mc Lowen Roy A. Caluscusin (COSCA)
Lhanz Decano (COSCA)
Rhob Quian Villano (COSCA)
Kent Jocym D. Tindugan (Foundation University - FU)
Gem Lian S. Delos Santos (Foundation University - FU)
Their victory earned them the honor of representing NIR PRISAA at the National PRISAA Games.

COSCA’S MEDAL HAUL
Aside from 3 x 3 Basketball, COSCA athletes dominated in other sports disciplines, securing the following medals:

Swimming – 4 Gold, 1 Silver

CHALLENGES AND INSTITUTIONAL ADVOCACY
Negros Oriental’s participation in the 2nd NIR PRISAA Games was initially hampered by concerns over the financial policies imposed by NIR PRISAA. Schools were required to remit 85% of their collected fees to the regional body, leaving them with only 15% for operational expenses. This revenue-sharing structure raised concerns about financial sustainability, leading to a negotiation conference that resulted in a revised agreement. Despite these challenges, Colegio de Sta. Catalina de Alejandria (COSCA), Silliman University, and Foundation University remained committed, ensuring that Negros Oriental had a strong presence in the competition.

A PLATFORM FOR FUTURE CHAMPIONS
The 2025 NIR PRISAA Games brought together 17 top institutions, including:

Colegio de San Agustin - Bacolod (CSAB)
University of St. La Salle (USLS)
University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R)
La Consolacion College (LCC)
Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias (CSAV)

Beyond competition, the event reinforced the importance of developmental sports programs, offering young athletes opportunities for national and international recognition.

A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE
The triumph of COSCA Cardinals, alongside their peers from Silliman University and Foundation University, reflects their dedication, the commitment of their coaches, and the unwavering support of their institution.

Despite hurdles, COSCA Cardinals rose to the occasion, proving that true champions are defined not only by their victories but also by their ability to overcome adversity.

As they prepare to represent NIR PRISAA at the National PRISAA Games in Tuguegarao City, the COSCA family and the entire Negros Oriental delegation rally behind them, eager to witness their continued pursuit of excellence.

COSCA is set to send its Gold Medalists and National Qualifiers (a 21-member delegation)—17 college athletes, 4 high school athletes, and 8 coaches—to the National PRISAA Games in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Valley, from March 31 to April 13, 2025.

𝙇𝙊𝙊𝙆 | COSCA's College Of Criminal Justice Education advises students to refrain from spreading misinformation online

Last Tuesday, March 11, 2025 in the Philippines, Gen. Nicolas Torre of the PNP, by virtue of their duties to the Interpol, read the Miranda Doctrine to Former President Rodrigo Duterte during the latter's arrest for charges on Crimes Against Humanity. However, as far as seen in circulating videos of the commotion, a physical copy of the warrant of arrest was not presented to the former president. This prompted major backlash from netizens and raised questions on the legality of the arrest.

To address the issue, the CCJE released a statement to remind cadets to "refrain from sharing the video of Gen. Torre [a]bout the warrant issue trend". In the same post, the CCJE cited Section 7 of Rule 113 of the Rules of Criminal Procedure and clarified the legal context of the warrant not being physically presented at the time of Duterte's arrest.

Prior to the announcement, the College of Criminal Justice Education also released a statement to explicate their non-partisanship as future criminologists.

𝙄𝙉 𝙋𝙃𝙊𝙏𝙊𝙎 | COSCA Games 2024 comes to a close

Following its opening on December 9, 2024, the sports and ball games of COSCA Games 2024 were fought between teams on January 21-23, 2025. To culminate the Intramurals, the performance competitions were held at Lamberto L. Macias Sports Complex on January 24, 2025, prior to the much-awaited Awarding Ceremony that took place in the evening of the same date. The Crim Panthers, formerly Black Venom, defended their lengthy reign and brought their trophy back home as COSCA Games 2024 Overall Champions.
