𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦

Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero was reelected as the upper chamber’s highest leader during the opening of the 20th Congress’ First Regular Session on Monday, July 28, 2025.

Escudero retained his post as Senate president following the nomination and support of 19 senators.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada was also reelected to the upper chamber’s second highest post.

Following tradition, Sen. Vicente “Tito” C. Sotto III assumed his post as Senate Minority Leader, ensuring balance and oversight in the chamber.

Members of the chamber also elected Sen. Joel Villanueva as Majority Leader and chairperson of the Committee on Rules, posts he also held during the 19th Congress.

At dawn on Friday, July 25, 2025, the devastating impact of Typhoon Emong is strongly felt by residents and business establishments along Barangay Pagdaraoan going to San Fernando City Central Business Area due to heavy rains and strong winds that battered the City of San Fernando, La Union. People in the early morning hours witnessed widespread flooded streets, fallen trees, ripped power lines and wide infrastructure damages to residential homes, commercial areas, roads, business establishments, etc.
Typhoon Emong's wrath left a devastating trail of massive damages and significant disruption not only in the City of San Fernando but in the entire province of La Union.
