Research suggests that Toriyama struggled to name the attack and turned to his wife, Yoshimi Kato, for help.

She proposed "Kamehameha," inspired by the Hawaiian king Kamehameha I, thinking it would be memorable. This fits with the attack's association with Master Roshi's Turtle School, as "kame" means "turtle" in Japanese!
