Phillip Yerro Kimpo's Literary Contributions: Kalibo Public Library Welcomes 3 New Books

Book enthusiasts can now enjoy three recently published works by Phillip Yerro Kimpo, hailed as "Aklan's Poet Laureate of His Generation" in a 2021 Resolution of Commendation from the provincial government. The collection includes "álattalà," a poetry anthology awarded the Grand Prize at the Maningning Miclat Poetry Awards in 2013, making Kimpo the sole Aklanon to achieve this honor. This book was featured in the official calendar of the 2020 National Celebration of Buwan ng Panitikan (Literary Month) & Buwan ng Wika (Language Month).

Kimpo's translation of Romulo P. Baquiran Jr.'s work, "Bone Deep: Hospital Diary and Other Essays" (2022, Alubat Publishing), has garnered acclaim, with Dr. Joey Baquiran, the original author, serving as the current director of the UP Institute of Creative Writing.

Additionally, Kimpo translated the Kalinga epic "Ullalim" in 2022, featuring an introduction by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario (a.k.a. Rio Alma). The Kalibo Public Library's "Phillip Yerro Kimpo Collection" corner is now home to these three books, contributing to Kimpo's prolific literary legacy alongside his role as Kalibo's number 1 councilor, known for crafting impactful ordinances and best practices for Aklan.
