The Aklan United Chess Association (AUCA) proudly congratulates Don Wilson Obido for achieving the prestigious 𝗙𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗔𝗜𝗠) title in 2026! 🇵🇭

His latest achievement adds another significant chapter to a chess journey that began on the competitive boards of Aklan.

📌 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟭 – 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽

Representing ASU-CIT-Aklan on Board 4, Obido scored 𝟯 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝟲 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀, contributing to Aklan’s participation in one of the country’s organized inter-provincial team competitions.

📌 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮 – 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 – 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗴

Representing Aklan in the Open Under-20 category, he entered the tournament with a published rating of 𝟭𝟴𝟬𝟲 and was ranked 𝟭𝟱𝘁𝗵 in the starting list, competing among some of the province’s promising young chess players.

📌 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – 𝗙𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿

Years after his over-the-board competitions, Obido continued his chess journey through FIDE-rated online Arena Chess on World Chess, eventually earning the official Arena International Master (AIM) title.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗦𝗨-𝗖𝗜𝗧-𝗔𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮, his journey reflects years of continued involvement in competitive chess.

𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚, 𝐍𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐬, 𝐀𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐧 — The Aklan United Chess Alliance (AUCA) delivered another outstanding performance at the 𝙎𝘽. 𝘽𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖 𝙇𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙖 𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙤 𝙄𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 held on August 1, 2026, as two of its members emerged as champions in their respective divisions.

𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠 captured the Open Category Championship after scoring 6/7 points, while 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐬 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬 delivered a flawless performance to claim the 12-Under Championship with a perfect 7/7 score.

Both champions showcased exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, bringing pride to AUCA and the Province of Aklan. Their victories reflect the organization’s unwavering commitment to developing competitive chess players and inspiring the next generation of champions.

A huge congratulations to Clarence Bulaclac, an incoming Grade 9 student, for participating in the University of Santo Tomas Chess Team Tryouts held today, May 10, 2026.

Finishing in 4th place is already an incredible accomplishment, especially in such a highly competitive event. More than the result, this experience marks another meaningful milestone in Clarence’s growing chess journey.

Clarence sincerely extends his heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported him throughout this journey. Special gratitude goes to Congressman Jess Marquez, Governor Joen Miraflores, Vice Governor Dexter Mationg Calizo, Kalibo Mayor Juris B. Sucro, and Atty. Dan Amosin for their generous financial support that helped make this opportunity possible.

He would also like to thank Dr. Angelica Lachica for helping with the bookings and arrangements, and Allen Mirano for the mentorship, guidance, and valuable lessons shared throughout his chess journey.

With deep gratitude, Clarence also acknowledges Lola Nening, the Servants of the Poor Sisters, and the pastors for their prayers and spiritual guidance.
