SUC Culture and Arts Directors and Coordinators in Region IV Gear Up for the 9th STRASUC Festival at RSU

Demonstrating a unified commitment to advancing cultural collaboration and artistic innovation across Region IV, the STRASUC Culture and the Arts Directors and Coordinators of State Universities and Colleges convened for their First Consultative Meeting on June 9–11, 2025, at Romblon State University – Main Campus, Odiongan, Romblon.

Day 1 was dedicated to essential organizational matters, including the declaration of quorum, approval of previous meeting minutes, and the deliberation of critical agenda items—namely, the post-evaluation of the 8th STRASUC Culture and Arts Festival 2024, the presentation and approval of its liquidation report, and initial preparations for the upcoming 2025 Festival.

Following the session, the ACADC Officers, led by President Dr. Angelito V. Quiñones Jr. and in close coordination with Business Manager Dr. Mary Jane R. Arboleda with the kind support and facilitation of Dr. Laurence R. Cantor, ESCEO Chairperson of RSU Cajidiocan Campus, who humbly served as the program facilitator, paid a courtesy call to RSU President Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani. In a gesture of genuine hospitality and solidarity, President Mani warmly welcomed the delegation with words of encouragement and a firm message of support. She also graciously toured the group around the Administration Building, humbly introducing them to the university’s distinguished offices and showcasing RSU’s notable facilities, underscoring the institution’s commitment to excellence and innovation in higher education.

Day 2 featured an ocular visit throughout RSU Main Campus, offering participants deeper insight into the university’s cultural infrastructure and creative spaces—further igniting inspiration for future cultural endeavors within the region.

The meeting concluded on Day 3 with the finalization of the proposed agenda and action plans. As RSU prepares to host the 9th STRASUC Culture and Arts Festival in October 2025, the coming weeks and months will be marked by thorough preparations and the careful organization of facilities and documents to ensure a successful and meaningful celebration of regional talent and artistic excellence.

In addition to the formal proceedings, the Directors and Coordinators were also introduced to selected local food spots and hangout attractions in Odiongan, enjoying a glimpse of the town’s warm hospitality. They delighted in purchasing souvenir items and regional delicacies (Pasalubong) that are distinctly Romblomanon and crafted with the pure, authentic touch of Romblon.

With shared purpose and renewed vision, the STRASUC community looks ahead with hope and determination—committed to cultivating culture, empowering the arts, and inspiring generations through unity and excellence.

HONOR THE SAINTS. UPLIFT WOMEN. PROTECT OUR VALUES.

Our fiestas are sacred. More than just celebrations, they are acts of devotion—offering praise to our patron saints, celebrating our faith, and showcasing the richness of our cultural identity.

But in recent years, a troubling trend has emerged: barangay beauty pageants that no longer reflect dignity, purpose, or class—instead reducing women to mere displays of appearance, often in front of young, impressionable audiences.

We call on our newly elected local leaders—our Mayor, Sangguniang Bayan Members, and Barangay Captains—to consider passing an ordinance that will regulate the conduct of beauty pageants. When left unchecked, these events risk stripping away more than clothing—they chip away at the values we cherish as a community.

If beauty contests are to continue, let them uplift, not objectify. Let them promote values, highlight talent, and honor the strength and grace of women, not use them as tools for shallow entertainment.

This is not about cancelling pageants. This is about restoring their rightful place—where women are celebrated, not commodified.

Let’s protect our traditions. Let’s preserve the sanctity of our fiestas. Let’s teach our youth that true beauty is not skin-deep, but is rooted in self-respect, purpose, and grace.

Because fiestas are for faith, not fundraising at the expense of women’s dignity.
