NEWS | Heavy Rains Keep Olongapo Schools Closed on August 11

Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. announces the suspension of classes in all levels in both public and private schools in Olongapo City tomorrow, August 11, as the city remains under an Orange Heavy Rainfall Warning due to the continuing effects of the Enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

According to PAGASA Weather Advisory No. 37, issued at 11:00 p.m. on August 10, Zambales is among the areas expected to receive significant rainfall, with 100–200 millimeters of rain forecast from tonight through tomorrow evening, August 11. PAGASA warns that numerous flooding events are likely, particularly in urbanized, low-lying, and riverside areas, while landslides are possible in moderately to highly susceptible areas.

Furthermore, the latest rainfall advisory for Olongapo warns of 15–30 millimeters of rainfall per hour, with intense rainfall observed over the area and expected to continue in the succeeding hours.

WEATHER UPDATE | Mayor Paulino Suspends Face-to-Face Classes in Olongapo Amid Heavy Rains

Hon. Atty. Rolen Paulino Jr. suspends face-to-face classes in Olongapo City for August 10 as heavy rainfall from the Enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to threaten the city.

The suspension is in line with Memorandum Circular No. 123, which directs the implementation of alternative learning modes for classes at all levels in public and private schools in Zambales and other identified areas on August 10.

As of 11:00 p.m. on August 9, Olongapo City remains under a Yellow Rainfall Warning, according to Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 38 issued by Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office - Olongapo City on their official page, with flooding still possible in flood-prone areas.

Water levels in Olongapo City also remain elevated. As of 8:00 p.m., Sta. Rita Bridge records 2.8 meters, reaching the critical level, while Del Rosario Bridge and Kalaklan Bridge record 1.9 meters and 1.8 meters, respectively, both at the warning level.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to monitor official announcements from local authorities and disaster-response agencies.

NEWS | Tropical Storm Maymay Prompts Class Suspension in Olongapo City

Classes in all levels, both public and private schools in Olongapo City, remain suspended today, August 6, as announced by Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr., due to the threat posed by Tropical Storm Maymay (Kujira) and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

As of 11:00 PM, Tropical Storm Maymay is moving eastward at 20 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h and gusts of up to 90 km/h.

PAGASA forecasts 100–200 mm of rainfall over Zambales through August 6, increasing the risk of flooding and rain-induced landslides. Olongapo City remains under a Yellow Rainfall Warning, with 7.5–15 mm of rainfall per hour expected, making flooding possible in low-lying areas.

Moreover, from August 6–7, Zambales is expected to receive an additional 50–100 mm of rainfall due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). Similar rainfall amounts are forecast from August 7–8, with persistent rains expected across parts of Central and Northern Luzon.

Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant, monitor official PAGASA and LGU advisories, avoid flood- and landslide-prone areas, and call 911 in case of emergencies.

CLASS SUSPENSION | Following Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr.'s announcement suspending classes for all levels in both public and private schools due to the possibility of heavy rainfall this afternoon, Little Angel Study Center, Inc. (LASC) shifts to online synchronous learning today, Tuesday, August 4.

In an official Facebook post, LASC announces that students are expected to attend their classes through the school's designated online learning platforms following their regular class schedules. The school also advises learners and parents to continue monitoring its official communication channels for further announcements and to prioritize safety while inclement weather conditions persist.

Angelite Math Whiz Clinches MOTLI Golden Cup

Princess Bhella T. Fernandez, a Grade 10 student and Social Media Manager of The Angelites, was honored with the Golden Cup Award in the Junior Secondary Division during the Math Olympiads Training League Inc. (MOTLI) Mid-Year Awards held at the Bahay ng Alumni, University of the Philippines Diliman.

Gernandez received the prestigious distinction after securing Gold Awards in all the mathematics competitions she joined, including the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) 2025 Heat, Big Bay Bei (BBB) 2025 Heat, Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PHIMO) 2026 Heat, and Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) 2026 Heat.

Looking ahead, Fernandez expressed her desire to expand her horizons by competing on the international stage.

"My next goal is to compete internationally, learn meaningful lessons from every opportunity, and continue growing both as a competitor and as a person while proudly representing my school and my country," she added.

The MOTLI Mid-Year Awards honors outstanding students who have demonstrated exceptional performance in its partner mathematics competitions, recognizing young learners who continue to excel in mathematics both locally and internationally.
