LUKSO | Aspiring editorial board members for the academic year 2026-2027 have started the rigorous examination for their respective sections at The Forefront’s office today, June 7.

Aptly named ‘LUKSO’, this year’s iteration of the editorial board exam introduced a new criterion based on the aspirant’s accomplishment report and staff evaluation from the previous academic year.

OLONGAPO CITY — A total of 2,630 Gordon College (GC) students gather for this year’s National Service Training Program (NSTP) Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday, June 4, at the SMX Convention Center.

The program commenced with an opening prayer led by National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) Vice President for Logistics Luis Miguel Tupas, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, the Olongapo City Hymn, and the Gordon College Hymn.

NSTP Head Carlmaulen J. Cura delivered the opening remarks and presented the candidates for graduation, which was subsequently confirmed by College President Dr. Imelda D.P. Soriano.

In his message, Olongapo City Mayor Hon. Atty. Rolen C. Paulino Jr. emphasized the importance of making the most of every moment and encouraged completers to value education and face challenges with courage and purpose.

Dr. Soriano also addressed the graduates, highlighting that service is not merely a duty but a calling answered by the heart.

“This is not the end of the program, but the beginning of a legacy,” she declared.

With the theme, “Advancing NSTP Through a Whole-of-Community Approach: Honing the Youth as Pillars of Nation-Building,” the ceremony was graced by Senator of the Republic of the Philippines Hon. Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros as the keynote speaker.

Senator Risa emphasized the importance of authenticity and presence in public service. Most importantly, the importance of showing up, reminding students to face challenges, connect with people, and fulfill their responsibilities as future nation-builders.

“Hindi perpekto ang Pilipinas, pero atin ito. Dito tayo mangangarap, dito tayo lalaban, dito tayo magmamahal, at dito natin itatayo ang mas mabuting Pilipinas,” she remarked.

The senator’s keynote address was followed by the awarding of certificates to completers of the Literacy Training Service (LTS) and Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), led by their respective instructors.

The program concluded with closing remarks from NSTP Instructor Mr. Hubert Lew Magrata, who expressed his gratitude to the instructors and emphasized the vital role of the youth in nation-building.

The graduation ceremony was conducted in two batches, with the first session held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and the second from 2:00-5:00 PM. | via Alyssa Marie Alcantara/The FOREFRONT

Kapag may assignment, ‘pag may note-taking, dapat kayong gumawa,” ani Hontiveros.

Kapag magulo, dapat inaayos [at] binabantayan. | via Alyssa Marie Alcantara/The FOREFRONT

NEWS | Student Leaders rise above barriers in Capacity Building 2026

OLONGAPO CITY—Mr. Jonas Dupo challenges student leaders to empower, elevate, evolve, and produce during the capacity building with the theme "Rising Above Barriers: Building Safe Spaces and Transformative Leaders for a Better Tomorrow", last June 1, at the SMX Convention Center.

According to Dupo, this capacity-building aims to provide interactive and engaging student leadership training for student leaders at Gordon College (GC).

“It may not be an easy feat, but it is rewarding and a blessing to those whom you have served,” the CEO reminded the GC student leaders.

The resource speaker mentioned that effective management is an important process to attain resources and meet organizational objectives.

Moreover, the Student Capacity Team Building generated activities like sharing leadership journeys and getting to know each other, which allowed students to share their individual experiences leading student organizations in GC.

During the resource speaker's presentation of the “Saan ka rito?” segment, he highlighted that all student leaders will have flaws, but it’s never too late to seek changes and improve.

He also mentioned that holding accountability is acknowledging the responsibility of a great leader.

“Leadership that leaves a lasting legacy,” Mr. Dupo instilled in the student leaders.

This is part of the preparation for the college's 24th Commencement Exercises on July 8.
