The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals No. 1 to 3 in several parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao as Severe Tropical Storm Opong continues to intensify, bringing strong to storm-force winds and heavy rains. Areas under Signal No. 3, including parts of Bicol, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Mindoro, Northern Samar, and Leyte, face wind speeds of 89–117 km/h with moderate to significant threats to life and property. Meanwhile, Signal No. 2 and Signal No. 1 cover surrounding provinces, Metro Manila, and parts of Mindanao, where gale-force to strong winds and rains are expected within 24 to 36 hours. Residents in affected areas are urged to remain alert, prepare for possible flooding, landslides, and power disruptions, and to heed local authorities’ advisories.
