Court Orders Forfeiture of Kerwin Espinosa’s Multimillion-Peso Assets

MANILA, Philippine — A Manila court has ordered the forfeiture of multimillion-peso properties, vehicles, and bank accounts linked to self-confessed drug lord and now Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa. The ruling, released this week, authorized the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other government agencies to seize assets believed to have been acquired through illegal drug trade and money laundering activities.

Among the confiscated assets were several residential and commercial properties in Albuera, Ormoc City, and Misamis Oriental, as well as 13 luxury vehicles, watercraft, fi****ms, and bank accounts reportedly under Espinosa’s name and his associates. Authorities clarified that the forfeiture is a civil case “in rem,” meaning it targets the assets themselves rather than requiring Espinosa’s criminal conviction. Despite his earlier acquittal in major drug cases in 2023 and 2024, the government said the move forms part of a broader strategy to cripple criminal networks by cutting off their financial lifelines.

Cup of Joe's 'Multo' Wins 'Best Break-up Song' at Tatak Ormoc 2025 Business Awards

Ormoc City, Leyte, Philippines — The OPM sensation Cup of Joe has added a unique and local accolade to its growing list of achievements, with their chart-topping hit "Multo" being named the "Best Break-up Song" at the Tatak Ormoc 2025 Business Awards.

The award was presented under the prestigious Consumer's Choice Awards, Feelings Category, a segment of the Tatak Ormoc Business Awards that recognizes brands and cultural products that have made a significant emotional impact on consumers in the region.

The winning title was displayed on a screen showing a scene from the song's famous music video, which stars actors Miles Ocampo and Elijah Canlas, capturing the melancholic and "haunting" theme of the track.

A Local Win for a Global Hit

"Multo" (Filipino for 'Ghost'), a synth-pop/pop-rock ballad about the lingering memories of a past love, has been a phenomenal success. While the song has broken global records—including becoming the first Filipino act's entry on the Billboard Global 200 and holding the record for the longest-reigning No. 1 on the Billboard Philippines Hot 100—its victory at the Tatak Ormoc Awards highlights its deep, regional resonance with Filipino listeners.

The recognition underscores the song's effectiveness in capturing the universal experience of heartbreak, earning it the title of "Best Break-up Song" as voted on by the local consumer base.

The Tatak Ormoc 2025 Business Awards, organized by local business and consumer groups, celebrates excellence in various sectors, making Cup of Joe's win a nod to the band's cultural and emotional connection with the Visayas region. The band continues to prove that their music not only dominates national and global charts but also deeply connects with the hearts of listeners at the grassroots level. | VAW

: The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Second Division has officially dismissed the election protest (EPC No. 2025-031) filed by Violeta C. Codilla against Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, affirming Torres-Gomez's victory in the May 12, 2025 local elections. In the Order dated October 17, 2025, the COMELEC ruled to summarily dismiss the case for "failing to comply with the mandatory requirement of form and content" under COMELEC Resolution No. 8804, meaning the protest did not sufficiently detail the alleged grounds of massive fraud, vote-buying, wrong crediting, and VVPAT anomalies, thereby securing Mayor Torres-Gomez's term.

COMELEC Dismisses Codilla’s Election Protest Against Lucy Torres-Gomez

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Second Division has dismissed the election protest filed by Violeta C. Codilla against Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, citing failure to comply with mandatory form and content requirements under Section 7(b), Rule 6 of COMELEC Resolution No. 8804.

Codilla sought the annulment of Torres-Gomez’s proclamation as the elected mayor of Ormoc City in the May 12, 2025 elections, alleging vote-buying, flying voters, and other electoral irregularities. However, in an order dated October 17, 2025, the Commission resolved to summarily dismiss the case due to procedural insufficiencies.

The ruling was signed by Presiding Commissioner Rey E. Bulay, along with Commissioners Nelson J. Celis and Noli R. Pipot. | VAW
