Pope Francis' estate at the time of his death was just $100, without property, bank accounts or investments. This is because, as a member of the Company of Jesus, he fulfilled the vote of poverty and renounced any form of material wealth.
*Life of Austerity*
- He lived in Casa Santa Marta, a simple space inside the Vatican, instead of the luxurious papal apartments.
- He didn't accept the annual salary of 340 thousand euros that corresponded to him as head of the Vatican.
- The Vatican covered its basic needs, such as food, transportation and security.
*Legacy*
- His legacy is not measured by the material wealth he accumulated, but by the life of faith and austerity he led.
- In his will, he asked to be buried in a side chapel of the Basilica of Saint Mary the Major, in Rome, with a simple tomb and without particular decoration.
