7.8 Magnitude EARTHQUAKE HITS MINDANAO

A strong earthquake struck parts of Mindanao at 7:37 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, with initial earthquake monitoring apps estimating the tremor at magnitude 7.8.
The quake’s epicenter was initially located near the Municipality of Glan in Sarangani Province at a depth of 75.9 kilometers. Strong shaking was felt in several areas across Mindanao, including Davao City, prompting evacuations and suspension of classes and government work in some areas.

🌦️ Most parts of the Philippines will experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms today due to localized thunderstorms as more than 26 million students return to school for the opening of School Year 2026–2027.

🌧️ Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region and Zambales may experience scattered rains and thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat). Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert as moderate to heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides.

🏙️ Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening.

🌊 Moderate winds and seas are expected over Extreme Northern Luzon, while the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate sea conditions.

✅ PAGASA reports that no Low Pressure Area (LPA) is currently being monitored for possible tropical cyclone development.

Marcoleta: Huwag takpan ang katotohanan

Tinawag ni Senador Rodante Marcoleta na malaking tagumpay para sa katotohanan at pananagutan ang pagdinig ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee noong Huwebes kaugnay ng umano’y anomalya sa flood control projects.

Ani Marcoleta, sa kabila ng umano’y pagtatangkang hadlangan ang paglalantad ng mga testigo, nakarating pa rin sa publiko ang mabibigat na alegasyon ng mga dating sundalo at security aides ni dating Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co.

“Matagal tayong hinahamon na maglabas ng ebidensya. Ngayon na may mga testigong humaharap at handang magsalita sa ilalim ng panunumpa, tila may mga puwersang gustong pigilan silang marinig ng sambayanan,” diin niya.

Sa pagdinig, lumutang ang mga alegasyon ng ilang dating Marines at security personnel tungkol sa umano’y pagdadala ng maleta na naglalaman ng malalaking halaga ng pera mula sa mga proyekto ng pamahalaan. Ayon sa mga testigo, ang mga delivery na ito ay umano’y nakarating sa matataas na personalidad sa gobyerno, kabilang sina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos, dating Speaker Martin Romualdez, at iba pang matataas na opisyal.

Diniin ni Marcoleta na ang mga ito ay seryosong alegasyon na nararapat imbestigahan nang buo at walang kinikilingan.

“Hindi sapat na basta itanggi lamang ang mga paratang. Ang hinihingi ng taumbayan ay isang patas, malaya at transparent na imbestigasyon,” aniya.

Ayon pa sa senador, may iba pang testigong handang humarap sa mga susunod na pagdinig upang magbigay ng karagdagang impormasyon at ebidensya hinggil sa umano’y malawakang katiwalian.

Kasabay nito, binatikos ni Marcoleta ang grupo ni dating Senate President Tito Sotto sa umano'y lantarang pang-aagaw ng kapangyarihan o 'naked power grab' upang agawin ang kontrol ng mga komite, at pigilan ang Blue Ribbon committee na dinggin ang testimonya ng mga dating sundalo.

Dagdag nya ang reorganization na pinangunahan ng minorya ay naglalayong patahimikin ang Blue Ribbon committee sa paglalahad ng katotohanan.

“Kung walang itinatago, walang dapat ikatakot. Ang Senado ay dapat maging daluyan ng katotohanan, hindi tagapagtanggol ng sinumang nasa kapangyarihan,” dagdag niya.

Ayon sa senador ang mga alegasyon ay tungkol sa bilyun-bilyong pisong pera ng taumbayan. Kaya nararapat lamang na ito'y imbestigahan para lumabas ang buong katotohanan.

The Low-Pressure Area (LPA) northwest of Batanes has intensified into Tropical Depression "Ester", PAGASA reported Friday morning.

• Location: 225 km west of Itbayat, Batanes
• Maximum sustained winds: 45 kph
• Gustiness: up to 55 kph
• Moving northeastward at 20 kph
