Blood Moon Eclipse to Illuminate Philippine Skies on September 7–8

Filipinos will witness a rare astronomical event on the night of September 7–8, 2025, as a total lunar eclipse, also known as a Blood Moon, becomes fully visible across the country. The phenomenon occurs when the Moon passes completely into Earth’s shadow, causing it to glow in shades of red and copper. This particular eclipse will feature a totality lasting about 82 minutes, making it one of the longest in recent years.

The Philippines is among the best locations to view the entire event from start to finish, along with other regions in Asia, Australia, eastern Africa, and parts of Europe. Astronomers emphasize that the eclipse can be safely viewed without any special equipment, though dark and open spaces away from city lights will provide the clearest view. The event is expected to draw widespread attention, both for its scientific value and its cultural significance.

The 2nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Company, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion, Support Command, Philippine Army, also known as the Army Bomb Squad, will conduct a controlled disposal by detonation of Unexploded Ordnance (UXOs) and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components recovered within the Area of Operations (AO) in Ormoc City.

This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to protect lives, uphold community safety, and preserve the environment through the proper and secure disposal of hazardous materials.

• Do not panic. These are controlled and supervised detonations conducted by trained EOD experts.

Rep. Gomez Hits Back at Mayor Tacoy Over Flood Control Project Claims

Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez has fired back at Matag-ob Mayor Bernie Tacoy following the latter’s statements questioning the legitimacy and implementation of a flood control project in the municipality.

In a strong rebuttal, Gomez accused Tacoy of spreading misleading information about the project, stressing that government initiatives undergo proper evaluation and funding processes. He maintained that the flood control works are vital for protecting communities in Matag-ob against recurring flooding and should not be politicized.

The lawmaker further called on local leaders to focus on cooperation rather than sowing discord, pointing out that infrastructure projects are meant to benefit constituents, not to be used as political ammunition. Gomez vowed to continue defending programs that safeguard the welfare of his district.

GOMEZ FIRES BACK AT TACOY

Leyte 4th District Representative Richard Gomez hit back at Matag-ob Mayor Bernie Tacoy over the latter’s claims questioning the quality of flood control projects in the town. Gomez accused the mayor of spreading misleading information that deceived both the public and the media.

The lawmaker stressed that he is not afraid to face any investigation should proven irregularities surface in the project. However, he urged Tacoy to exercise caution in making accusations and to refrain from feeding the public with unfounded data that could damage reputations.
